problems during pimatic installation
-
tried it again with a new installation (max2play based on wheezy, and even a new sd card), failed again. only interesting to see the performance difference between class 4 and 10 cards…
As also the cloning from one of the others PIs card failed, my second son will have to live without knowing temperature in his room… hopefully he will forgive me when he’s older -
Did you install git on your system? I think this is necessary. With raspbian it comes pre-installed.
pimatic rocks!!!

yes, I did.
Current famous last words using “npm install pimatic --prefix pimatic-app --production”:npm http 304 https://registry.npmjs.org/logrotate-stream

@Wolf another question: ping works without problems? like
ping github.com
for me it looks like a problem with the network configuration, because it says that there is no route to host.
-
@techbarney : you are right! I didn’t follow that route as that raspberry has connection to network… in principle. Ping to heise.de works (others as well)
ping heise.de
PING heise.de (193.99.144.80) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from redirector.heise.de (193.99.144.80): icmp_req=1 ttl=246 time=12.5 ms
but:
ping github.com
PING github.com (192.30.252.122) 56(84) bytes of data.
From JojoPlayer.local (192.168.0.103) icmp_seq=1 Destination Host UnreachableThis means: only github isn’t reachable. Is it blacklisted on that raspberry? It works from others in the same network. Interesting…

Heureka!
That’s why I love IT, because of its non-deterministic behaviour. I could finally install Pimatic.
Background: My Raspberry could not reach github. Interestingly it could reach all other tested domains.
Solution: I removed the static IP address for that raspberry. Once it received dynamically an IP address, i could reach github.
Root cause: I have no clue. Whether because of that specific static IP address in my network some other system didn’t like or just because of the usage of DHCP… I don’t know. -
nice to hear that your issue has finally been solved.
maybe it will help others with similar problems in future.pimatic v0.9 has been released!

Could be that with the static IP you used your router as the DNS server and via DHCP your router my provide alternative/fallback DNS servers which then could resolve the github domain. If I use statich IP I use my router as DNS and ad 8.8.8.8 as a fallback (google dns)
