Hi, im new here and set up my pimatic with a very little bit of knowledge about linux and totaly none knowledge about json or coffee. I have RF transmit and IR working now(tnx to the people who write and share about it on the interwebs), so i decided it was time to add a kaku doorcontact. Problem is that my receiver receive nothing over a range of 30cm. I have homeduino with a ar(fun)duino nano, What is the normal range of a receiver without antenne and if i add a antenne to it, would it have a indoor reach of 30mtrs?

Receiving range

@so-what you can expect a range of 50 to 100 meters for that you need:
- an antenna a simple wire of 17.3 cm
- a good receiver http://wiki.pilight.org/doku.php/receivers
if you have this one http://www.dx.com/p/433mhz-rf-transmitter-module-receiver-module-link-kit-for-arduino-arm-mcu-wl-green-220194#.VR717-SO9_Y don’t expect a good range
pimatic rocks!

you should go for this receiver kit here :
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Geeetech-433Mhz-Superheterodyne-3400RF-Transmitter-and-Receiver-Link-Kit-Arduino-/361230434317or if your transmitter is OK just go for an RXB6 receiver, this is the one from the above kit.
it turned out that this receiver has a very good range for a good price.these ones here are crap :

It seems i have to buy myself a new receiver
For now i solved my problem. For some reason i didnt get the full 5V on my receiver. I rewired and use a second 5V powersuply now. With the full 5V the receiving went up. Did try a “coil antenna” but that didn’t improve range, gonna try a wire later like @Yves911 said.

I have to experiment with this a bit by myself, but what i am gonna do is:
- Adding an Antenna
- I will add 2 capacitors between into the powerline of sender and receiver. A big one and a tiny caramic capacitor. Seems that these things are really sensitive when it come to noise and ripples on their power input.

I solved my problems. I did order a superheterodyne and made a connection between ground of arduino and RPI. Still waiting at the Singapore mailman but the receiving and transmitting are much beter now. Some things are really simple
