Yes, I work with Ubuntu. Unfortunately my WebSpace is full and I can not delete anything. I can show the moment nothing better.

okay, other tryout was to clear the spiffs with
http://esp-ip/format
https://github.com/koffienl/ESPimatic/wiki/Format-SPIFFS
or compile ESPimatic with 1M spiffs size
(if the spiffs size was to small for uploading the files, set them back to 3M and flash again. after changeing the size flashing and rebooting the spiffs should get cleared)
I have the ESP-01, only 1MB.
Since the setting with 4MB will probably not work.
When I start ArduinoIDE, then I get this message:
$ sudo sh arduino
[sudo] password for ingo:
arduino: 23: arduino: [[: not found
arduino: 23: arduino: ==: not found
arduino: 23: arduino: ==: not found
arduino: 23: arduino: ==: not found
arduino: 23: arduino: ==: not found
Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS:
Perhaps that has to do with my problem?

ooh, okay.
i didn’t see the message before… sorry… but I go out of suggestions
edit: my last advice: reflash in commandline with nodecmu *.bin file

did you upload the files from the bootstrap folder?
imo the problem is, that the esp01 has only limited size as you already know. there is not much space for the fileuploads.
for the esp01 you should consider to gzip the html files and upload them to the spiffs - and also upload the files in the bootstrap folder too (not included here!).
maybe this helps, worked for me.
i also did a memory upgrade of an esp01 to 4MB flash. works like a charm but need good soldering skills and equipment.

Like @Leader21 mentions: the espo01 is actually too small for espimatic. You do need to upload the gz files.
Next to that it is not neccessary to upload all files (in the gz). If you only have a ds18b20 connected, you don’t need to upload the dht.html or irled.html or … you name it.
And what is your first ESP? Is that also an ESP01 or indeed a “bigger” ESP? Are you comparing apples with pears?
Yes you need some SPIFFS space to upload all files.
You can try stripping all the unwanted files and do not upload the bootstrap and jquery files (you need internet connection on the device you connect with to the ESP).
All the HTML files can be compressed with gzip before uploading to save some space.
The files you really need:
bootstrap-extra.css
esp.html
insert-local.js
login.html (if you need login)
menubar.js
pimatic.html
root.html
wifi.html
Plus one or more HTML files for the devices/sensors you use
Together about 63 KB so you would need about 504 kilobit of flash/SPIFFS space. If you compress these files with Gzip it would take about 19 KB / 150 kilobit of space on the SPIFFS
For the money, I would just order some NodeMCU’s from ebay/aliexpress with 5mbit flash.

Hi all, thanks for your help, now I finally managed it and found my mistake. Thanks to @koffienl I have checked my files again and have fixed frame that I had packed these files with gzip.
bootstrap-extra.css
Insert local.js
menuBar.js
@koffienl a file is missing in your collection I think.
Insert web.js
As always now also runs on my second ESP-01 with 1 MB.
And reasonable images upload goes again.
Now I can switch on the Christmas lights with pimatic and ESPimatic when the time comes.
Edit: Sorry, no with 1MB, only 512kb

Yeah my bad. Should have mentoined only to use insert-web.js
Since you have little space I assumed you’re not going to put the bootstrap/jquery files on SPIFFS. Then you can leave the insert-local.js and only upload insert-web.js
Glad to see it’s working
