Anyone installed Pimatic on Raspberry Pi 4

Hi everyone.

I want to hear if anyone have installed Pimatic on a raspberry pi 4?

I would like to upgrade my old raspberry pi model b, as it start becoming old, and who is knows how long it will last.

If you have done it, have you done anything special? The installation instructions are made for the old pies.

Hi, there are several posts mentioning successful installation of Pimatic on rpi 4.

If you at the same time also upgrade your node version, that could cause problems (depending on the plugins you are using)

Thanks. Which node version is the highest that works well?
I would like to install assistant relay as well, and I believe it needs at least node 10.13

Node version 10.22.0 is the latest node version that works well.

A question on assistant relay. How are you using that?

I’m not using it yet, that is additional reason why I want to upgrade, as it cannot be used on the old pies.
But the idea behind assistant relays is that you can use your Google home speakers to announce for example that someone is ringing on your door bell.
It can be used with curl command, as far as I know.

For announcements on Chromecast devices you could also look at the plugin pimatic-sounds.

That stops what’s being played on the speakers already. Assistant Relay just pauses it while it speaks.

Indeed, Sounds uses cast to send announcements (text or file) to a chromecast speaker (one speaker or a group). I made it so that after the announcement was played the playing music resumes. I tested it with tuneIn music playing, but it could be that other sources aren’t resuming.
You could test your setup (it needs also a higher node version 8 or 10)

Yeah I will try and test it. I just installed Pimatic on the raspberry pi 4, and it seems to run stable.
Now next step is to try and get assistant Relay running.

If you have an android device a usufull alternative is Woli for voice output via TTS.

Thanks for the suggestion. But I would like it to run on my Google homes I have around the house.

I made a stupid mistake when I was installing everything and used the script for installing the node red on the pi which upgraded node.js and npm. I then spent a couple of hours to try and downgrade, which according to the pi was successful, but pimatic kept giving a ppm error. So I decided to start from scratch. Think I will have the time today. Otherwise tomorrow.

I’m quite annoyed with myself, because as soon I have pressed enter on the bash script I remembered what it would do, but it was too late 😅

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I already use the better google cloud tts (as an option) in pimatic-sounds.

@simonbove I tried the assistant-relay and it’s some work to install but the announcement function works very nice.
So I added an extra device to pimatic-sounds (the GoogleDevice). The GoogleDevice is using an installed assistant-relay server and can be used via rules in Pimatic.

Yes, and you can use the pimatic discovery to find and add google devices.

I got everything up and running on my new Raspberry Pi 4… I used Node.js version 10.15.0 with latest pimatic release.
Then installed Node red manually without their script on the home page. After that I got Assistant Relay up and running. Thereafter my zigbee2mqtt stick was installed.
Lastly I tried to use pimatic sounds, but was not able to get it working with Assistant Relay, so instead I went with node red to use with Assistant Relay. Works flawlessly.
Coming from the old raspberry pi model b with boot time of around 10 minutes, I now have everything running after only 1 minute after reboot. Everything is just blazing fast.

So I can really recommend everyone to upgrade their pimatic install.

Now I just need to make a backup image of my install in case of SD malfunction 😊
