[solved] not able to do a simple pimatic installation on raspi 3B+

since one week I just try to do a simple pimatic installation on my new raspi 3B+.
I exactly follow the instructions from the wiki to install pimatic 0.9 from scratch.
So I deleted the node Version, install the new version 4.6.2, later i tried 4.8.2. When I’m going to start I get

In this forum I could read a lot of solutions for problems according node version. But nothing of these seemed to be the solution for my installation.
here some information’s about my installation:
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus Rev 1.3
PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch)"
Linux raspberrypi 4.14.79-v7+ #1159 SMP Sun Nov 4 17:50:20 GMT 2018 armv7l GNU/Linux

So at this time i have no further idea what i shall change. Perhaps you will have some hints for me.

Pimatic 0.9.43 is broken. They didn’t mange to fix it since last 7 month.

If you want to use Pimatic, install 0.9.42

cd /home/pi
mkdir pimatic-app
npm install pimatic@0.9.42 --prefix pimatic-app --production

But I recommend you to look for an alternative as the project is almost dead.
As you see they publish a broken version and didn’t mange to fix it since several month. Pimatic is still based on node.js 4.x which reached already end of life and gets no fixes anymore. Current version is 10.x. They discuss since more then one year to bring Pimatic to a newer version of node.js but no step done yet.

@dasmaetthes This isn’t really constructive. I’m still trying to fix the problems that arised from some dependencies that won’t work with node 4 anymore. So it not the fault of the pimatic team in the first place. But you are right, the release cycles should be less seldom.

thanks for your answers. In the meantime I just downgraded to 0.9.42, it was a small improvement .
Now I’m able to install and start pimatic on my raspi, but seemed to have a lot of pitfalls. So the log-file is growing.
I used pimatic 3 years ago, switched over to fhem. But the design of fhem is a little bit “difficult” for my opinion. And so I thought to go back to pimatic.
I decided to wait a few time and to look, what will the way of pimatic in the next month be.
Once again, thanks for your support. It would be fine if you could put some information about the broken release in the wiki “install pimatic 0.9 from scratch”. Perhaps there will some other guys try it in the same way like me.

Thanks a lot, I’m going on to configure now my devices. Hope everything will work fine. Pimatic seemed to me one of the most interesting homeautomation tool.

Sorry, have to open this thread again.
My post of yesterday based on a mistake by me. I used the 3B in this test, not the 3B+.

Today now I tried the 3B+, installing node Version 8.15.0 first.
But with this it is not possible to install pimatic, neither 9.42, 9.43 or 9.44.

Do you mean the latest Version of pimatic?

Actual my pimatic is running with version node 4.8.6 and version 9.4.4 of pimatic I think. At this week I am not at home, so I am not able to test anything. But as soon as I am back home (next week) I will send all the results.
Ohne question at least: may I upgrade node without any risk for the running pimatic system? What do you think?

Make sure to make a backup before upgrading. Even upgrading the OS sometimes sucks and needs to be reverted. Don’t upgrade the node installation to a new major version with an existing pimatic installation, unless you have a good reason to do so. Minor version upgrades (e.g. v4.8.6 to v4.9.1) are usually fine.

If you want to try the pimatic installation with node v8 or v10 make sure you install the latest pimatic version which is v0.9.46 at the time of writing. I suggest to do this on a separate (virtual) system, possibly. Note, however, node v8 and above is not yet fully supported. Known issues:

• Installation of packages from the command line using npm is likely to cause errors with pimatic
• pimatic-homeduino installations fails, same may apply for other plugins using serialport like pimatic-johnny-five

Actual everything that I tested works fine, have no trouble.

I’m trying to reinstall pimatic on a fresh SD card with raspberry pi stretch on it, as I read buster is not read for pimatic somewhere.

@simonbove The last row with No plugin found for device is the most important one as it tells which plugin was not loaded. I would guess its the mqtt plugin. Could you post the complete error message?
