Time to say goodbye

Hey Pimatic users and developers,

As the title suggested it’s time for me to say goodbye to pimatic.
It has been fun (and frustrating from time to time) to see a lot of developers making all sorts of plugins and my pimatic installation became bigger and bigger and became the core of all kinds of processes in our house.
But after a crash this weekend and being unable to install even a basic pimatic instance and failing plugins in the last years that needed to be resurrected with all kinds of code changes and other ways to keep them alive (huezll, homeduino, tradfrii and some other older plugins) it’s time to move over to a new platform.

I want to thank all developers and helpful users on this forum, it has been a great ride!

I’m surely going to miss the amazing rules section of pimatic, that part and the completely different layout compared with other platforms had made me run pimatic for as long as I could.

Thanks and who knows, maybe I’ll come back someday!

Hello, I understand that you put an end. Here almost nothing is supported anymore, when the system is running everything is still good. But if there is a problem, then you are stuck as a non-progamierer.
I am also for years with pimatic. I have also looked around for other systems. But all others are much more complicated than pimatic. At least that’s how I feel about it. Complex rules with variables can be created excellently in pimatic. I have not found another system where it is so easy.
Which system did you switch to? IOBrocker?
The IOBroker system seems to be very active. But I have problems with Blockly. The system is certainly very extensive and equipped with a lot of possibilities. But I really just want a system that runs smoothly in the background. There is the possibility for many great interface, that certainly has something, but I do not need them.

Yeah it’s just too bad the pimatic community is fading out like this. There’s still a few active users here who will help you wherever possible so that’s a big plus but as far as I know the initial developers left pimatic so development is halted.

Actually I’m testing out a few possible alternatives. Tried domoticz but it’s not very stable for some reason. Now I’m in the middle of configuring home assistant wich is a bit more difficult than pimatic and domoticz because a lot is done with scripts but for now it seems to be the best working solution.
Also for whatever reason I wasn’t able to set up home assistant on a newly bought Pi4, the thing wouldn’t even boot up saying something like “unsupported board type”. So I’m setting it up on my pi 3b now.

Haven’t looked at iobroker yet so maybe that’s another alternative.

I love pimatic for the rule engine and that should be the focus of every home automation system.
I spent a lot of hours to rules last years and feel a little wistful because I don’t see much movement at pimatic and fear pimatic is nothing to run for next 10 years.

but there is no-one to criticize. the core devs done a great job!
pimatic is underestimated and has received too little attention

I try home assistant and openhab and hate both.
for most trivial configurations I needed hours.
adding 40 zigbee devices and place them somewhere on the dashboard is pain and not productive.

Never change a running system … and I’m too lazy for that In my opinion the sense of a home automation is collecting data. Depending on
these data the system makes a decision to process the data for my benefit - and pimatic does that well. Okay, the integration of some devices could
be better. But: so what? You are able to execute external programs/scripts written in PHP, Python, … in pimatic. If you have a problem you find
a solution in the WWW. Change the “solution” according to your ideas and integrate it into your system, define rules with the excellent rules
generator and be happy. A few programs play an important role in this: In reality I hate mosquitos, but in the virtual world I love mosquito and
MQTT: Build IOT-devices with ESPxxx, generate MQTT-data and send these informations to pimatic. It works. A fantastic program to create a new
IOT-device is ESPHome. If you use Alexa use the great tool alexa_remote_control. If you use Tuya products look at tuyapower or tinytuya written in Python. And so on. I hope my system will never die

I hope too my system is running forever. I found a good backup solution for me.
but what is in 5-10y when maybe raspbian is only 64bit or some other evolution which makes problems with pimatic? do I have to isolate a old-timer rpi to run pimatic?

that are my personal questions after I spent a lot of time in this project.

I have two Pimatic instances running. One on a Rasperry with Raspian. A second one on Debian Buster. On an Intel NUC I have Proxmox running. Debian Buster runs as a VM on Proxmox. And pimatic runs great on Debian, so 64Bit.

Hi All,
the same happened with me over the last 2-3 months. As I already was using the ioBroker VIS GUI and within that also a couple of adapters, since more than a year now, I started to migrate step by step all rules into ioBroker Blockly.
As already said here, Blockly first is more complicated and I also loved Pimatic’s rule engine. But in the end, the opportunities are larger, also definitely regarding the available adapters (plugins).

Thus, also from my side GREAT THANKS to the nice people I met here over the time. It was a lot of fun and I always got great support!
Pimatic was a super start in general into Home Automation, especially for me as a non developer.

Keep Pimatic up and running, maybe at one time it will get a re-start.

As I firstly implemented nearly everything on basis of 433Mhz Homeduino and meanwhile everything migrated to ZigBee, I have a lot of that stuff now unused here at home (mostly Intertechno and Rohrmotor24 + a ready to run Arduino). If someone is interested please contact me. I guess we would come to a fair price.

pimatic don’t need thousand of plugins. for me the raspbee, hap, mqtt and shell plugins are the most important ones.
it would be nice if they are cared for a little more. some little improvements to the rules like comments and else cases when it comes to execution, more device support to raspbee and hap. that’s it. rest is in my opinion game stuff.

pimatic could live forever if they build in matter someday. that would be awesome!
I hope some guys on this project has some enthusiasm left to do that

do you have plans for the future with pimatic?

@djmvt: I am sorry to hear that you are going, but I understand your step.

I run Home Assistant beside Pimatic since a while and moved some stuff already. But Pimatic will run for me as long as it is possible as my 2nd system. Simply because some things are available here only.
I tried ioBroker, but I don’t like the UI. Also openHAB was not the right system for me. Home Assistant is well supported and gets updates every month (at the moment ) since I run it. For sure no system out there is that easy to use and to rule up as pimaitic, but it is to quite here, this will not bring in new users. No idea how to change this. But sometimes things are as they are…

@00lex: As I can see mwittig wasn’t online since a half year, so I thing there will be not much we can wait for.

@ortin now that I have my system completely up and running I can say everything is working as it was in my pimatic setup. Even streaming video of my rtsp camera with gpio doorbell to my Google hub is working perfectly fine. And playing my own music from my Nas to google speakers is something I thought was impossible but it’s not
I’ve learned a lot from working with pimatic and from all users here on the forum and I’m really thankful for all the support here. It was definitely a fun ride!
