Is PIMATIC still alive?

Hello,

I am a long time Pimatic user. When I look at the forum here I have the impression that not much is happening anymore. Many entries are a few years old. The last Pimatic version is already old, will there ever be a version 1.0? Are Pimatic and the forum still alive? Do you have to look for alternatives?

It is still alive. But you are right it is getting more and more silent here. Some important (from my point of view) plugins are not more maintained, because the dev maybe moved to an other system, don’t know. But we also have some great new plugins if you are using google stuff.

As I can see, serveral systems are always announcent as partners, but pimatic isn’t so nobody knows the system.

The pimatic raspbee-plugin is really great, but nobody knows about… As I can see even the last admin is not more active here.
But … the system work still great for me. Some cosmetic stuff would be nice to be done on the core, but as long as it works in the current way I am fine with it!

Hmhm, well I know this question already has been raised a while ago in another thread and also been answered by a couple of people, but this silence here in this thread can make one a bit nervous 😬

This thread is about the number of active users and addresses the same question (and answers). Its good to have info grouped/linked.

I’m an active user and a fan of Pimatic. For me Pimatic is the right balance between out-of-the box and adjustable in-home automation. Some of the stuff/hardware in my home I build myself and I can integrate them easily via existing plugins or build one of my own.

The alternatives a clear and i’ve tried a lot of them (because I like to find out things ). Homey, node-red, home-assistant, io-broker, etc. But they don’t offer much more for me. The gui is mostly fancier, the programming sometimes low-code, but thats not important for me. I’m more interested in functionality, flexibility and ease of use.

The Pimatic core is stable and will be for a long time (if it isn’t broke don’t fix it).
There are a lot of plugins and i wrote several of them myself. I anybody is missing a plugin let me know.

Regarding Pimatic , this question I have from some time , I’m using Pimatic for 5+ years and it works perfect .It was a time then when IOT started to emerge back then. I build some of the plugins myself , also build the hardware myself and still works today.
I hope the project will continue to live.

i have been using pimatic since 2014. i think it was shortly after @sweetpi brought it to life. 6 years ago the whole thing was still a bit shaky. But with time it became more and more stable. My Raspberry sometimes runs for three or four months without a restart, pimatic as well. I am not a programmer. But I have become quite familiar with pimatic. I find the rules in connection with the variables ingenious. You can create really complex rules with it. They also work once you have recognized the connections.
Over the years with pimatic and here in the forum I have unfortunately seen many helping users leave. Just as examples:
@leader21 @sweebee @mwittig @thost96 @Harry van der Wolf
just to name a few of the helpers for normal users. Helpers who have made me more and more familiar with the pimatic system over the years and whom I thank for that.
Sorry to all those who are still online from time to time or often and whom I did not mention.
Everyone has a life to feed a family or other family problems besides pimatic. It can happen that you have to orientate yourself differently.

But basically I would also like to stay with pimatic. The plug-ins that are now available and the stability of pimatic speak for it (at least for me).

It would be really nice if this SmartHome project could be spread further. If a larger number of users could be inspired by it, then further development and continuation would be ensured, I think.

Obviously there are some, I hope many users who use pimatic without the forum. But to make it more popular the use of the forum would be quite good, or do I see it wrong?

Hallo zusammen, diese Frage hatte ich hier in ähnlicher Form schon vor einiger Zeit gestellt.

ich benutze pimatic seit 2014. Ich glaube es war kurz nachdem es von @sweetpi ins Leben gerufen wurde. Vor 6 Jahren war das ganze noch etwas wackelig. Aber mit der Zeit wurde es immer stabiler. Mein Raspberry läuft manchmal drei oder vier Monate ohne einen Neustart, pimatic ebenso. Ich bin kein ein Programmierer. Aber ich habe mich doch ganz gut in pimatic eingearbeitet. Die Regeln in Verbindung mit den Variablen finde ich genial. Man kann echt komplexe Regeln damit erstellen. Die dann auch funktionieren wenn man die Zusammenhänge erstmal erkannt hat.
Über diese Jahre mit pimatic und hier im Forum habe ich leider viele helfende Benutzer gehen sehen. Nur mal als Beispiele:

um nur mal ein paar der Helfer für ganz normale User zu nennen. Helfer die mich über die Jahre immer weiter mit dem pimatic System vertraut gemacht haben und die ich dafür danke.
Entschuldigung an alle die noch hin und wieder oder oft online sind, und die ich nicht erwähnte.
Jeder hat neben pimatic noch ein Leben um eine Familie zu ernähren oder auch mal andere familiäre Probleme. Da kann es schon mal sein, dass man sich anders orientieren muss…

Aber grundsätzlich würde auch ich gern bei pimatic bleiben. Die inzwischen zur Verfügung stehenden Plugins und die Stabilität von pimatic sprechen (zumindest für mich) dafür.

Es wäre wirklich schön, wenn man dieses SmartHome Projekt weiter verbreiten könnte. Wenn man eine größer Anzahl von Usern davon begeistern könnte, dann wäre auch Weiterentwicklung und Fortbestand gesichert, denke ich.

Offensichtlich gibt es ja auch einige, ich hoffe viele Nutzer, die pimatic ohne das Forum nutzen. Aber um es populärer zu machen wäre die Nutzung des Forum doch ganz gut, oder sehe ich das falsch?

I have been around since the beginning when pimatic was still an addon for pilight, it had grown fast since then and I had a great time working/thinking with the core users, but it sadly stopped a few years back.
I tried to do my part over the years but I just don’t have the time or drive anymore.
About 98% of my domotica is in Home Assistant these day, I still have pimatic running for the last RF stuff.
Pimatic is the only one who handles RF perfectly and is easy to setup.

Yeah, I’ve been there ever since. When I started with pimatic there was still the pilight plugin. And it worked well. But that was only in passing. It’s nice that you are still here in the forum at least once in a while.

Is Home Assistant a good alternative for pimatic? Is it possible to create the rule similar to pimatic?

Is there a community for users without programming knowledge?

Ja, seit dem bin ich auch dabei. Als ich mit pimatic anfing gab es noch das pilight-Plugin. Und es funktionierte gut. Aber das nur nebenbei. Schön dass du zumindest noch hin und wieder hier im Forum bist.

Ist Home Assistant eine gute Alternative für pimatic? Kann man dort die Regel ähnlich wie in pimatic erstellen?

Gibt es eine Gemeinschaft für user die auch ohne Programmierwissen daherkommen?

Thanks for the answers. I have been using Pimatic for a long time, I got it via Pilight and control my heating (Max!) with it. It is stable and does what it should and costs nothing.

Probably “costs nothing” is part of the problem. You have to do something all the time and as an eternal hobby you surely can’t do something like that. As a user I am glad to get a free software. As a developer I wouldn’t be to work all the time without getting paid. It works for a while, but as you can see, many turn away.

How can you make PIMATIC better known? Other projects (FHEM for example) are also free of charge, but more known for that. What can be done? More publicity, more users? Finally version 1.0?

I will continue to use Pimatic as long as my requirements are met.

Danke für die Antworten. Ich nutze Pimatic auch schon lange, bin über Pilight dazu gekommen und steuere meine Heizung (Max!) damit. Es ist stabil und tut, was es soll und kostet nichts.

Wahrscheinlich ist “kostet nichts” ein Teil des Problems. Man muss ja ständig etwas tun und als ewiges Hobby kann man so etwas sicher nicht betreiben. Als Anwender bin ich froh, eine kostenlose Software zu bekommen. Als Entwickler wäre ich es nicht, immer nur ohne Bezahlung zu arbeiten. Das geht eine Weile, aber wie man sieht, wenden sich dann viele ab.

Wie kann man PIMATIC bekannter machen? Andere Projekte (FHEM zum Beispiel) sind auch kostenlos, dafür bekannter. Was wäre zu tun? Mehr Publicity, mehr Nutzer? Endlich Version 1.0?

Ich werde Pimatic vorerst weiter nutzen, so lange meine Anforderungen erfüllt sind.

Also still a full-time pimatic user. Have been thinking about switching when I bought my first google home speaker, basically because there wasn’t a simple way to integrate pimatic with google home. Thanks to user @bertreb a lot of the stuff I wanted pimatic to do is actually working now, also integration with google home is possible now.

There’s still an Android tablet hanging on the wall to quickly browse through pimatic and it will be there as long as pimatic is working.
To me the interface is still a lot better than the google nest hub or google home App interface.

Not much of a dev, more of a user and still happy to do so… The way it integrates with linux, the things i can do with Pimatic makes it a wonderful companion for many years for me now.
With not really much to improve, maybe a bit to the user interface or the way rules are handled, i’m happy to use it for another long time.

oh oh… now I am getting nervous. I am using Pimatic since many years, 3x on Raspi Zero (still works fine) and one via Dokker on my Synology.
Hope it stays alive…

I’m using Pimatic from the beginning and still convinced that it was and is the best choice for my purposes. When I started to use Pimatic I also started to learn python and nodejs with the goal to implement do-it-yourself home automation by creating my own sensors and actuators. Over the years I have now build up several sensors/actuators linking these devices to Pimatic via MySensors or the websocket-API and controlling them with the great rule engine.
In my opinion for beginnerss and people interested in DIY Home Automation, Pimatic is the best solution as this platform is much more easy to learn compared to other HA solutions.
I hope that Pimatic will not die and at least the core functions will be upgraded to new node and Raspberry PI OS versions.

Hi folks, I’m really happy to see, that there seems to be a couple of users, using Pimatic and seeing it as really valuable. The same definetly from my side, allthough I’m on board here only for ~2 years now, but really love it.
It runs absolutely stable over months, if rebooting becomes necessary, then normally not driven by Pimatic.
I especially like the easy to handle rule engine. As I’m using the VIS (from ioBroker) as the frontend (on a 10" tablet mounted on a kitchen wall), I know how complicated it would become (for me) to migrate all here running logical stuff to Blockly or JavaScript. From time to time I thought about a complete migration, but I guess, that for the needed time-volume, I first would have to retire

In addition I like the teamwork here between developers/admins and the users who are not that deep within Raspian and all the other surrounding technologies (as me). Many thanks here to all of you!!!

Thus I would also be happy, to see an upcoming version 1.0 at a point of time. I guess, that having it, that might would also be pushing some more (new) users on Pimatic.

I’m glad to hear that Pimatic is still alive. Now and hopefully many more years. I use it since many years.
I started with Pilight in order to control a 433mhz-switch. Later I upgraded to Pimatic. I like the easy integration
of other components (433Mhz-devices with homeduino / mysensors), server (asterisk) and services (other plugins,
echo remote control). Great stuff!

I’m also a Pimatic User for years now and still happy with it. Started on a Pi Zero W but switched soon to a self made OMV Nas. Compared to the other known systems (eg FHEM, openHAB, HomeAssistant) it was easy to setup and worked nearly out of the box with mqtt and my shellies.

Compared to the situation 2 years ago, Home Assistant made a really great step forward in my opinion. If I would start today, I would choose it (and have already an installation running for my Tado-System). Pimatic still feels much more snappier, but lacks of support. Anyway, I’ll keep using it.

Of course pimatic is alive. I follow the philosophy not to rely on only one control system for all applications. Pimatic is very, very stable. I use it for controlling my water treatment and irrigation installation. The sensor values are supplied via mysensor nodes (pimatic-mysensors). Actuators are controlled via mqtt (pimatic-mqtt).
