How many active users do we have?

Hi everyone,

I recently came back to Pimatic after some time off. I have the gut feel less users are active / using Pimatic compared to some years ago. That gave me the incentive to do a poll on the forum:

Please upvote if you are an enthusiastic Pimatic user?

Yes, I am, but I also have the impression that there are less active users…

Most likely, this is the case and it matches with up with my perception of the situation. Note, however, user activity on the forum is not the only indicator. A lot of users simply use their pimatic setup without paying too much attention to the user forum unless updates are causing troubles. Well, some users don’t even install them (aka never change a running system) unless they’re forced to do so in the event of a re-installation, for example. Possibly, I can give some figures derived from Plugin Manager logs (not sure this possible though). Another possibility is tool look NPM download stats which are, of course, a bit higher than reality as some application services grab NPM packages to derive other statistics and meta information from that.

@mwittig Hi Marcus, for me it is mere interest. Maybe it is interesting to see any statistics from the logs you have. I’m certainly not questioning the validity, I am still a big fan myself

To be honest : I’m active as a pimatic user but not on the forum anymore.
I still have about 5 instances of pimatic running in my house for daily stuff, but the long term goal is to move to HA. I have one pimatic instance migrated to HA because it was a really simple installation (dedicate setup for a climate controlled beer cabinet.

Last week I had some real pain in the ass issues with plugins and incompatible with node version. Managed to downgrade all the dependencies that where causing the issues.

Iam still using pimatic an iam happy with it.

It is stable and simply works in my setup and if there a problems with my own plugins iam still fixing them.

So iam active.

I´m using Pimatic nearly from the beginning and don´t want to change.
I really don´t know how long, is it 10 Years or longer?
I came from IP-Symcon, wich was way to complicated and expensive.
Pimatic is easy to use.
Sometimes it can be buggy, especially after an update, but i like it.
I do not really like the look, but the “engine” is good.

I am as well a big fan and maybe to active in this forum . Two of my neighbors are running Pimatic under my administration and they are really happy with it.
I thinking from time to time to move to another system, but my setup is simply too heavy to move it shortly.
I would really like to have more time to step deeper into the development and support the core team (I have many ideas), but I am currently happy to keep my system working. I am still putting in functions weekly.

What about to announce Pimatic to get closer to potential users. From my point of view the biggest argument for Pimatic is the simple handling. The time from installing a plugin to get the device working over the UI can’t be find in any other system. The UI itself is simple and clean. But as well a little bit old school. It would be a big benefit to have at least a second skin (not only colours) and something like a floorplan. The material frontend which is not more maintained was a great idea.

I’m an active user and also a big fan Pimatic. For me Pimatic is the right balance between out-of-the box and adjustable in-home automation. Some of the stuff in my home I build myself and I can integrate them easily via existing plugins or build one of my own.

I would like to be more active in development of Pimatic (besides building plugins). But it’s a little unclear to me how to join the development.

Still active with pimatic and I like it a lot.
The point is that in the early “days” of installing pimatic and explore its possibilities, you try a lot of things and for some you need help or ideas.
At some time you have the stable environment with the sensors and controls you need, and you get less active (or hardly at all) on the forum.
The only time you have to do “something” is indeed when a major upgrade takes place or dependencies change. Then you need the forum again to see what others experienced or did to solve the (probably) same issues.

For me it is now a stable system, doing exactly what it needs to do.

I still use pimatic…

I am using pimatic for many years and my installation even grows. Especially in combination with homeduino and mysensors I feel I have a powerfull home automation system. I use pimatic but I am not happy with it.

Unfortunately progress in supporting users is slowing down.
I am not able to develop my self, so I made feature request. In former times the requests were solved very fast. Later they were hardly considered any more, so I gave up to make new requests. For me pimatic is on a state where I can use it, but my wish would be that the development team would concentrate work to improve the core system.

I’ve been using Pimatic for over three years now and i’m very happy with it. It is very reliable and for example enabled me to bring down energy conumption in the house significantly. However, I too notice that activity in the forum is dropping somewhat. The best way to prevent that seems to me to attract more users. I wish to express my gratitude to all the developers that put their time into Pimatic and very much hope the project stays alive.
