Presence using MQTT Attributes

I am using a Sonoff 433mhz Bridge running Tasmota to forward messages via MQTT as so:
{“RfReceived”:{“Sync”:XXX,“Low”:XXX,“High”:XXX,“Data”:“XXX”,“RfKey”:“1”}}
I then use an MqttSensor with the RfReceived.RfKey attribute to store the unique RFKey.
Finally I activate a rule based on the current value:
When RfReceived.RfKey of 433REC is “1” then set presence of presencesensor1 present
Is there a different way to approach this?
My gues would be that you could use the json mqtt payload directly for the mqtt presence sensor ?

As I understand it the MQTT Presence Sensor does not support attributes so I can’t make use of the payload directly, unlike the MQTT Sensor which does. I think I read a post somewhere stating that attribute support would be forthcoming but it’s not in the GUI.
Is it possible to set a variable based on an MQTT message? Something like: when mqtt payload contains rfkey1 then set $presencevar to 1
I have spent some more time on this. I think my existing method will not scale. As more devices are added the value of RfReceived.RfKey may change too frequently.
Switching to Espurina or rflink firmware on the 433 Bridge is an option. Espurina MQTT messages look like they might work with the Pimatic-MQTT Presence Sensor. However I already have a large number of Tasmota devices and I do not wish to complicate my deployment.
So instead I will use Node-RED to process the JSON payload and publish a reformatted message that Pimatic-MQTT Presence Sensor can work with.
Node-RED is entirely new to me. So I am using the following as a guide:

I have a working example using the above and I’m happy with this solution. It would have been nice to do this within Pimatic but I think that would currently require a plugin which is beyond my skill set.
