New Plugin: SamsungTV_2016

This plugin can be used to interact with newer (2016 and later) Samsung Televisions. The plugin provides a single device, which is an extension of the SwitchActuator, and can be used to turnOn and turnOff the TV. Nothing more. The device config only requires the the IP address of the TV (the mac address will be automatically obtained and populated by the device).

The first time you turn off the TV using the device, you must be in front of the television to approve the request.

It may be possible to send additional keys beyond KEY_POWER, but I have not tried others. While I’m happy to help anyone having issues with this version of the plugin, I will not be expanding it’s capabilities. I created it for the sole purpose of turning on and off the television.

I have a KS8000, and can confirm it works perfectly. It actually works better than the SamsungTV device provided by SmartThings.

@leader21 Sure, I would be happy to publish it, but I would like another user or two that it works as well. I’d rather not publish a faulty plugin, or one that has only been confirmed as working by just me.

i do have a samsung tv from 2016 and would try it if it is available via the plugin section in pimatic.
please add it on npmjs

@dk00000 well, he wants someone to test it first. It would be great for him if you could do that.

If you want to try it, do as following;

cd /home/pi/pimatic-app/node_modules

sudo git clone https://github.com/aap82/pimatic-samsung-tv-2016.git

cd pimatic-samsung*

sudo npm install

Restart pimatic, activate the plugin, restart again, and it should be under devices.

Now i deleted the manual installation of the plugin and installed it via plugin manager in pimatic. Now it doesnt work anymore and show the following error msg:
SamsungTV_2016_Switch.property is not a function

What happens?

Have you clean the browser cache? Sometimes this is the reason for error messages.

its an error in the pimatic log. i dont think that browser cache is involved but i will check it later

I installed the plugin, and now this shows up in the Plugin section of my config:

But I can’t find a device with a name like Samsung or T.V., or even SwithActuator like you mentioned in your opening post in the dropdown menu, when I create a new device.
Could you please give me a hint what my next action should be?

have a look at “devices” menu. there you can create a new device with the specific type.

Thats the thing, it doesn’t show up in the device menu. There is nothing called samsung or tv.

@mr.smith the reason you dont see it is probably simple. It only requires a restart.

Typical case when installing through the GUI;

Install plugin -> activate the plugin -> restart.

@mr.smith just restart. it will show up.

@dk00000 I have no idea what this could be.

In the past 10 minutes, I just deleted the old version of the plugin (which was manually added), and installed the new one through the mobile-front-end plugin installer, and it works just fine.

I did make sure to delete the old version of the device before installing the new version. Also, restarted pimatic in between those uninstall / install steps.

Can you try the following:

1. delete any devices associated with the plugin
2. Uninstall the plugin, and the config.
3. Restart pimatic.
4. Reinstall plugin & restart pimatic.

?

Let me know if that doesn’t work.
