I am thinking about switching from RF to Wifi switches. I have tried to find a wifi device for dimming but i cant seem to find the right one.
Any suggestion for a 220v wifi dimmer(europe)?
Any 220v wifi dimmer available?

Nothing?
i have no idea! all dimmers i can imagine of are 433mhz or 868mhz for the homematic stuff. well, maybe sonoff has something, but i guess they only have switches instead of dimmers. i will ask at my “maker group” if they have any idea.

well, seems to be a hard nut to crack!
if you want to tinker a bit you could try this one here
https://www.tindie.com/products/nEXT_EVO1/universal-ac-mains-dimmer-mpdmv41/
it’s an universal dimmer board for pwm control where you can work with an esp and espeasy) for example.
other aproches could be enocean or homematic as said - but the costs of these are in no relation to the benefit in my opinion.

@Gleno0h keep your eye on https://www.brilliant.tech/ I’m assuming they will release a 220v sometime next year.
@leader21 that could be an idea but i rather have something that is already done. I tought iTead (sonoff) would have had a device but it seems not. It is indeed a tough nut. @amit-patel thanks, but that thing is expensive!
A response from iTead:
"Dear Glen,
No plan to do it and we hope we have it at next year.
Regards,
Yoyo Wu"
Topic can be closed as it will probably take a year and a half for something decent to show up.
Another solution might be to buy a Dimmer 433 Mhz and to mod it using a ESP-8266 or such. If you search for “433 Mhz Smart Plug ESP8266” you should find some how-tos for this.
If you don’t want to mod the device, another approach is to build Wifi to 433 Mhz Gateway like the following, but, of course, you can achieve similar by using pimatic-homeduino and some scripting. http://www.instructables.com/id/Using-an-ESP8266-to-Control-Mains-Sockets-Using-43/
Candidates for tinkering (opening the enclosure might be a problem)
If you don’t like 433Mhz at all and tinkering is not an option, you might want to extend your search for zWave or ZigBee devices. I remember there is a Smartplug Dimmer from Bitron which runs on ZigBee.

would say we’ll let it stay open. maybe in a year or so somebody will pick it up again

This is indeed a hard nut to crack. I have been looking at dimmers like these for a while now, but there is not a real good option. I’d prefer an open source dimmer like the KaKu AWMD-250 which is suited for 230V GU10 led spotlights, but then preferably based on an ESP8266 and controllable via MQTT.
It isn’t too hard, I think it could be easily done using the ESP-14 which combines a ESP8266 and an STM8 microcontroller to handle the zero crossing, timing and ADC needed for dimming. I’d love to develop it sometime, but as always time is the limiting factor
For the time being I resorted to the AWMD-250 controlled via pimatic/homeduino over 433MHz. Works fine though and is a well tested and quite affordable solution (about 22 euros currently at Praxis).
I have been thinking of cracking one open to reverse engineer the dimmer circuit, can’t be too hard for an engineer. But again… time is limited

Open Source? Can you please clarify!
Note beyond, the Trust Smart Home / COCO / KaKu ACM-100 I have referred to above is also suitable for LED lights! However, the KaKu AWMD-250 may be easier to integrate with an standard wall switch. Moreover it provides for another option as it can be controlled via a relay switch. This way you control it without manipulating the AWMD-250 itself if you don’t want to do that for safety reasons (ESP-8266 --> Relay Switch --> AWMD-250). The dimmer control is somewhat limited, however, as explained in the manual.

Sorry for the confusion, but what I am referring to is an open source (both hard- and software) dimmer with the same capabilities (230V, LED) and probably formfactor as the AWMD-250. The latter work quite well indeed. What I don’t like about the manual/relay control method is that there is hardly any feedback of the dimlevel. Via 433MHz/homeduino it works fine as the dimlevel can be set directly. So what I would basically want is to take out the 433MHz part of the AWMD-250 and replace it with an ESP(/wifi) based solution.

Ok, thanks

Agree. That’s also what I have suggested in my earlier post among other options.

maybe easier abd cheaper to achieve with the hardware from my above link ? (https://www.tindie.com/products/nEXT_EVO1/universal-ac-mains-dimmer-mpdmv41/)

It might indeed be a nice solution to integrate with an ESP. I have looked at it before, but haven’t been able to find demo’s/experiences with 230V dimmable LEDs. It should be possible though. I might order one to play with in the next days, still a bit hesitant because of the fairly high shipping costs.
maybe this is an option?
Looks to cheap to be a serious thing but also not expensive to try out… However I guess that they dont have certification here in europe.
I know Ubiquity from Wifi Accespoints where they have very good products with extremely competitive pricing…
Smarthome seems to be a new area for them or somebody is just stealing their logo

I did not find any indication on the maximum power draw it supports. It should also be noted a transformer needs to be added to provide power supply for the ESP-8266 and the ZCD circuit. So it won’t be cheaper, I guess. What I like is the high resolution of the dimmer function - 4096 levels is probably more than what you normally need.

@mwittig @Rene-Arts GOSH!! I haven’t seen the shipping of 15$ … well, ok that makes it expensive

Well, i just came from work and we have a new customer. I am currently creating the new packaging for their new hub(nice looking thing) of a company called Hive, located in England. And hey, it is for a smart home company! I have seen they offer wifi dimmable bulbs so that made me think about looking for those instead. Now im gonna hope they send me a gift for making their boxes hinthint/ifyoureadthis
Sad im not allowed to post a picture of it because they havnt released it yet.
