[Solved] Pimatic Netcheck installation

Hi,

i tried to install the Plugin Netcheck. While installing i get the following warns:

and when i try to activate the Plugin i get this error:

pimatic + rpi is updated to latest releases

What can i do?

Guess the plug in is outdated.

What you can do? Well, what do you want to do? Ping a network device or bluetooth?

Look into pimatic-ping plugin, which does the same except for looking at bluetooth.

@Gleno0h i want to ping and check if bluetooth device is present and show it in the gui all in one.
I had a rule before, where ping and bluetooth scans for my smartphone if its present but through androids sleep mode it shows the phone as absent but its at home. I want a reliable way to check this.

This plugin has never been announced in the forum as far as I know. Please contact the plugin author directly at https://crycode.de/pimatic-netcheck. At the botton of that page you can leave a comment for the author.

@S7EN it appears the developer made an error. It looks for ‘netcheck-config-schema.coffee’ however, it should be ‘device-config-schema.coffee’

After changing that i got a message about some plugin error. Hmm…

@S7EN okay here is a workaround. It is up to you to test it further.

Copy the commands and it should be working.

CD into pimatic node_modules folder;
cd /home/pi/pimatic-app/node_modules/

Download the archive, and it seems the NPM version is outdated;
sudo wget https://git.cryhost.de/crycode/pimatic-netcheck/repository/master/archive.tar.gz

Create the working dir;
sudo mkdir pimatic-netcheck

Extract the archive into the new folder;
sudo tar -xvzf archive.tar.gz -C pimatic-netcheck

Replace files;
cd pimatic*
sudo cp -r * ..
cd ..
sudo rm -r pimatic-netcheck-master*

Install the archive;
sudo npm install

You should get 3 warning messages about peerdependencies, that is no problem.
Wait a couple of minutes… (i think it is downloading pimatic as a dependencie and that takes a while)

If done correct, when you type the command ls you should now see a node_modules folder that contains “pimatic” and “ping”.

Now start pimatic and check the log, it should build a coffee file without any errors;
sudo pimatic.js

I dont knop if this is the best way to do this, so if any dev thinks otherwise, please add to this post!

Yes, kind of. On top of this it provide a rule action provide which allows for checking the presence of a given device and calling another rule in the absence and/or presence case. That quiete smart and we may use a similar pattern for other use cases in the future.

If i understand, the plugin creates a present/absent device for ping or bluetooth or for ping AND bluetooth in one device. So i do not have to have 2 devices, one for bluetooth, one for ping when its a smartphone i want to recognize. In the past i used a DummyShellPresents with a “hcitool scan…” for recognizing bluetooth presents of my smartphone.

There was a small typo in the package.json file, which prevented the netcheck-config-schema.coffee and netcheck.coffee files from being added to the npm package.

I fixed this and published a new version on npm (v1.0.2). Please try again the installation.

Sounds like the pairing is lost after reboot. Your device should be listed in /var/lib/bluetooth/<raspi-mac>/<device-mac> after the pairing and after reboot.

hcitool name <MAC> works but i cannot get the Smartphone connected to rpi. In bluetoothctl i always get this error:

is it possible to descover bluetooth devices only without beeing connected? I had a shell presence device before with code like this…

Well, for a general solution it would be required to have condition expressions as part of the action statement. It should be possible to implement this, but I don’t think the current implementation provides for this. With pimatic-netcheck it is a lot simpler as “if present” are just token tied to a specific behavior.

You don’t need to connect your device. It’s sufficient if it is paired.
The plugin just calls hcitool -i hci0 name <MAC> and checks if a name is returned.

If you enable the debug option in the plugin config, you should see debug messages for each check. E.g. bluetooth <MAC> present (<name>) or bluetooth <MAC> absent.

I enabled the option but i didnt see anything from the plugin in debug messages.
