pimatic (youless) as offline datalogger

Good day,

My father wants to measure the energy consumption of the flat he lives in. I’ve suggested to install a youless sensor on the energy meter. The youless however only has a small amount of memory so is not able to store data for a long time. Since there is no access to the internet near the energy meter I’m looking for a way to log the data offline. I did a couple of small projects on the raspberry pi and i figured it should be possible to connect a headless RPI to the youless and log the data on it so i can, for example, once a month read the data from the RPI and use the results from there.

A couple of hours of googling later I ended up on this website. I’ve now installed pimatic and the youless plugin on my RPI.

I have however stumbled upon a problem…

At some point after the installation I need to create a SSL cerificate so i can access the pimatic API over the web. This causes some problems since my pimatic configuration is just a headless datalogger…

Could anyone tell me how i should go from here ? I’ve been trying to look for a answer for a couple of hours now but I still don’t have a clue…

If the unit is not connected to the internet you most likely will be fine with accessing the frontend via HTTP and thus you don’t need an SSL certificate so you can skip this step.

SSL certificate is only needed if you configure the frontend to use HTTPS.

This works headless via ssh. But as @thex said, this effort is only needed for internat access.

Hi there,
Then i guess its a noob question but how do i know the address of pimatic to access in the browser?
And I actually just want to be able to pull the data from the RPI over SSH, I dont really know how i can connect to a webserver on the rpi from an outside computer.

Sorry for the perhaps dumb questions I’m trying my best to figure out as much as possible.

edit ive made some progress. apparetly i have some problems installing sqlite3, trying to figure that out first. think its a gpu issue.

the installation of sqlite at pimatic first start takes some time
what you can try

cd /home/pi/pimatic-app/node_modules
sudo rm sqlite3
sudo npm install sqlite3@3.1.3 --unsafe-perm

Amazing that worked!

New problem however… The system hangs after ‘rendering html finished’, ive left it running overnight but no change.
Does this have to do with the fact that i have no html server enabled?
Furthermore the ‘energy consumption’ config is not defined. Ive checked the config file but everything is written down correctly there, is there perhaps a different location where i need to enter this?

As you have id Energy consumption config.json?
You have id “Energy consumption” or "energy-consumption"
Example , must be “energy-consumption” or “energyconsumption” .
Not “energy consumption”
