This one is a quite nice one as well: https://www.tindie.com/products/ProtoArt/greenthumb-wifi-soil-moisture-sensor/
It is developed by a member of the Dutch tweakers.net community. From him I know that a few people who met through tindie are developing an even better sensor.
On the other hand Xiaomi has a nice bluetooth based sensor, the people at home-assistant have already reverse engineered the protocol. It also measures light, temperature and nutrient levels.

Don’t know if the plugin is working with 0.9 and if it is under active development.
As the sensor is a generic BLE device this is the Plugin which should be used.
After a short look at the code I’m afraid that the current version of the plugin only provides information about the presence of a BLE device and not about its services/characteristics. The used BLE node module however seems to provide functionality to access the devices services and characteristics.
@josecastroleon What is the state of the plugin? Do you plan to extend it? Would be a really great addition which could also support many other BLE devices (think smartwatches, fitness trackers etc.) out of the box.

Yes, my plan is also to try the script in the tutorial and import the variables into pimatic by using shellsensor … need pimatic variables for the rules
If its work, we can think about to create a useable plugin

Now we can use several Bluetooth soil moisture sensors
Has anybody of you succesfully tested the Xiaomi Plant Thingy with Pimatic already?
@Freekwilly This sensor uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for transmission. A simple way of integrating it might be to write a simple shell script for ShellSensor and to use one of the existing tools like https://github.com/open-homeautomation/miflora (written in python) as a baseline.
It should also be noted that the BLE plugins for pimatic have not been maintained for some time and are currently not supported with pimatic 0.9.

@mwittig PIMATIC-BLE is now compatible for PIMATIC v0.9.x
