Feature request (or how to do it?) > Trigger rules by manual click

I have a lot of rules (like most of the users) doing a lot of very different stuff what is an awesome feature of pimatic
but sometimes,
specially while testing new functions it was a gogd thing to trigger predefined rules manually by GUI fingertipp.
For example when check a notification by mail or something.

If I didn’t miss the way to do it alreday now would it be possible to implement this to the rule editor?

How about a button??
for example:

but
I’ll have to do so manually in every rule and need a button and have to switch between the screens what is a lot of searching and klicking, need to open the rule …

If it’s not a bigger project it could be one of my christmas wishes.

Maybe @sweetpi Or @mwittig are able to implement this without big codework?

A possible workaround that i sometimes use is the kodi-addon from @SLiX Not the kodi plugin!! If you have kodi installed on your pc laptop pi wherever, you can use the addon to list and trigger rules manually.

Where do you want to get rules triggered manually as part of the UI? Would it be good enough to have this as part of the Rule Editor, e.g. a “Test actions” button to trigger the rule actions?

Create a button named rule activator. Thrn create a variable input device type string. Then say in the relalevant rules:

When button activator is clicked and variable input is "rule1" then execute......

Or when button activator is clicked and variable input is "rule2" then execute...

Whit the variable input device you can call the rule an activate it with the button. Hope this helps

your workaround is for triggering a soecial rule that needs to be triggered manually more often. but if you need to test some rules if they work after / while you are creating them, you don’t always want to create even more rules to control rules ^^ a simple button in the rules list that can be activated / deactivated within the rule management itself and that shows up in the rules list ist possible would do the job imho

Not creating extra rules, just add it additionaly to the rules in the when part

Yes that’s exactly what I would prefer:
Just a button to trigger the action inside the rules editor
or maybe additionally in the rules list (before opening the edit button) to give more comfort.

Thx , I did. I also searched for a former topic like that but didn’t find in that moment

The API allows to execute a THEN action.
If there is demand, I could write a small python script, which can trigger a rule(then part).

You could use it like this:
python trigger_rules.py "example then part"

Of course you could create in pimatic a button to start this, or read the example then part from a pimatic variable (within rule)
