[implemented] Weather Undergroud

Hi,
would be nice to have an alternativ for the openweather plugin. The old “weather” plugin unfortunately doesn’t support v0.9. And openweather gives me sometime strange values. My weather underground app does the job better from my point of view.

@OrTiN I am in favor of this and I have already looked into the wunderground API in the past two month. Regarding openweather I have similar concerns. I have opened a support thread, as for my location I get bogus values every 2-3 hours (e.g. 7 deg C temperature values), but so far this has not been accepted as a bug.

Generally, I think the problem is, that these (meta) weather services typically aggregate weather data from different base services. If one of the services is acting strange or produces false data, or uses data from unreliable sources, you may end with crappy data for a region. Generally, the data quality may vary depending on the location queried. As far wundergrond is concerned I think it is a bit of mixed bag as they also use data from personal weather stations. It is worth giving it a try, but we may see similar issues as we have with openweather - https://www.wunderground.com/about/data.asp

Yes, think you are right. The old weather plugin was much better than OpenWeather is. The data were provided from MSN I think. Do you have an info of the developer regarding an update to work on v0.9?

I’ll give it a try. I am not sure whether or not the underlying package weather-js is still working as it has not been update for year now.

Is there any update on this? I’d be very interested in using wunderground, too - I only need it to detect when it starts to rain…

As I already provided an iFrame solution for Wunderground I’m going to write a dedicated plugin now, because setting up an additional webserver for the iFrame solution is quite annoying.

Yes, indeed. Besides pimatic-openweather there are several alternatives now the user may choose from.

• pimatic-wunderground - provides weather data from wunderground service for many locations world-wide
• pimatic-dwd-weather - a scraper to obtain current weather data from DWD for many locations in Germany
• pimatic-knmi-weather - provides weather data for 35 dutch location provides by the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute
• pimatic-metar-weather - provides weather data from METAR reports avaibale for all major airports world-wide
