Wemos D1 Mini

Just tested my new Wemos D1 Mini ESP. Wow very nice board.
Flashing is done at 921600 baud, that;s allmost as fast as a OTA update. Reset is handled by the board, so you don’t have to put the ESP in flash mode or hit a button.

Very simmilar to a NodeMCU I believe, just a little smaller. Biggest plus for the NodeMCU vs Wemos is you don’t have to solder. Plus for the Wemos is, you can stack boards on the chip, for example a DHT or SDcard reader board.

Yes, I am also very pleased with this board. No soldering, bread-board friendly, stackable, USB on-board. Fun for less than 4 Euros!!!

Ah, yes. Bought from the same supplier. I thought you meant you had one with the headers allready soldered.
I also received the SDcard board. @incmve has the same set and after soldering and stacking the SDwebserver example works like a charm.

I am testing MQTT on them. Works great. But does anyone have info about the influence of the usb port on consumption? When powering from the battery.

The ESPs are 3.3 Volt. That means when operating on 5 Volt, either via the USB or the 5V Vin, it has to run via a power regulator. A power regulator requires extra power from battery. I don’t know how much but maybe you can find that on the web or compare the same numbers with regulators on arduino nano’s and micros which come in both 3.3 and 5V versions.

I’m talking about the case when I’m charging 3.3V from battery. Omit usb circuit and the regulator. I was wondering if i will have greater consumption or not. Compared with the version without the USB chip.
I am unfortunately not so good measuring instruments.

Got my second d1 mini yesterday, from aliexpress like mwittig. No problems with espimatictat all!

For me the big advantage on the d1 mini is the ability to get 5v from the chip so you can run devices that require 5v directly like the led matrix. The breadboard ability is also given, you are able to plug one cable or bridge besides the wemos on the board. I like it
