pimatic-ping mac-address

I thought i saw an issue on github some time ago, in which somebody mentioned that you can get the ping plugin to work with the mac of the device instead of the ip. I can not find this post anymore. Am I blind or was it just a dream .
If there is not an option to do this now, wouldn`t it be a good thing to add?
