I could not get the standard script in the first post to work either, but the user/password combi in the url itself is not advised. I changed the php statement in the top script slightly. I suppose it differs slightly on every php implementation.
First of all: you need to install php5-curl as well: sudo apt-get install php5-curl
and restart your apache: sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart
for the single “get value” part (2nd half):

Where user:password is of course the real username and password for your pimatic access.
The first “get all” part is equal.
