I tried to use a relay node. I used the original example sketch for tests. When sending a command only aprox 75% arrive. After investigation I found out, that mysensors plugin is trying to get an ACK for the status change (or at least I think so), but I don’t know what it does when not receiving an ACK. Does it retry or discard the command?
I already asked in the MySensors forum and hek told that this depends on the controller, not MySensors architecture in general.
