We are (I personally) quickly running out of I/O and while I was successful in the past using these inexpensive expander (no I didn’t even try to make it rime) I was wondering if any of you is able to extend either homeduino or create a pimatic-mcp23017 to add some?

I assume you mean GPIO on the Pi itself?
Do you also use a Homeduino? Because with an Arduino connected through USB you get a whole bunch of extra I/O you can directly call from pimatic. And you can use both digital and analog. On ebay you can find Nano v3 clones for around $7 including shipping. Dependent on the shopkeeper you can have those at home in a week.

I have about 10 of these nanos and bunch of PI as well. But I think some people would benefit of having more I/O (I am almost using all mine) for more advanced project. These MCP23017 can add up to 16 I/O with a single chip and you can daisy chain them since they are using i2c bus, finally they are dirt cheap and could be added to the homeduino nano on the pimatic host but also added to a wireless sensor box, I am just saying.
