Maybe new problem with homeduino and 433mhz receiving (without arduino)?

Hello,

i updated my pimatic installation (and plugins) some month ago. After that, homeduino stopped working sending and receiving. I use raspberry Pi v2 and RXB6 receiver without arduino. This worked without any problems for over 3 years.

After reading all the threads here about homeduino, i figured out the wiring change problem and some more. So i was able to fix the send part, but receiving ist not working at all.

I tried a new RXB6 reveiver and another Raspi (v2) with the same config (software), to exclude the hardware as reason and i tested differnt GPIO Pins for receiving. But without sucess.

Yesterday i installed a clean Raspberry OS (newest release) and did a fresh pimatic install as described here:

Then i installed the homeduino-plugin and tried to test the receiving by discovering new devices. Did not work.

Someone have an idea?

can anyone confirm that homeduino and receiving generally works via gpio (without arduino)?

I can confirm that I used homeduino without an Arduino with some success in March/April 2021. Receiving was unreliable, that’s why I bought and installed an Arduino nano (clone) which fixed the problem.

I assume you built and installed vhduino, right?

I noticed that vhduino was sometimes terminated with a segmentation violation (signal 11). I created a bug report and a fix as a pull request, but unfortunately the fix was not (yet) integrated into the original repository. To get a fixed version you can use my fork from

For testing you can run vhduino manually and type commands. I did this and noticed the bug mentioned above. No guarantee for the details, I wrote this from my memory and after a short search (again) in the source code.
PING should result in an answer PING.
RF receive <pin> where <pin> is the pin number should result in ACK and start receiving data. If you specified the correct pin it should print all received messages as RF receive <data> where <data> is a row of numbers. Of course you need a device that will send some data to get this output.
I didn’t test sending, and I don’t know if there is a way to stop receiving apart from terminating the program.

Now i could compile your vhduino fork.

First test with “RF receive” did not show any data, but i think i should check my hardware / wiring again.

My modification fixes only the problem that the program was sometimes terminated by a NULL pointer access. You would notice this bug when you manually run vhduino. If I remember correctly, the crash occurred only when data was received on the specified pin during the initialization of the receive function.
(Of course there can be other errors.)

I suggest to run vhduino and try the receive command with different pin numbers. Make sure to have a device that sends data.

Unfortunately I cannot tell you what pin numbers I used because I replaced the software solution with an Arduino nano clone.

Receiving now works again (and sending of course) with my setup. No need for arduino in my case.
