Control a two-wired heating thermostat with pimatic

Hey folks,

Right now, I control my heating boiler with a very simple two-wired thermostat (see pics provided).
The inside of it has two wires, if you connect them, the boiler starts, if you disconnect them, it stops. So very simple, no ebus or anything, just a mechanical thermostat.

What I want to do is to replace it with something that can be controlled via pimatic, so I can fit rules to this one.
The Netatmo-thermostat with the netatmo relais seems to do exactly that and to be compatible with this system. It also has an app but I’m not sure if I can connect it somehow to pimatic and 200€ just to find out if that is the case seems a bit too much for me.

So, does anyone has the same heating control and would share his experiences?
(PS doesn’t have to be netatmo, it’s just the only thing I found)

@suchalaugh this a a nice subject.
A 2-wire or on/off thermostat is a mode most thermostats still can use.
Are you sure you heating system doesn’t support the newer opentherm protocol?

I’m also using a 2-wire solution because my heating system is 15+ years old.
And a Nest Thermostat for the looks and the remote control and the still working Webhooks interface via IFTTT with Pimatic.

I assume you are using this plugin. Could you share how the actual temperature in the room is following the on and off switching of the thermostat. Because there seems no PID or learning features in this thermostat, there could be bigger temperature fluctuations.

The scene is configured in the pluging variables, read the plugin information for that.
It is not self learning.

I made a rule to switch a relais on and of regarding the value of the valve of the plugin:

Thats looks like a logical way to interface with the heater. The learning function is not essential, thats more for learning to switch on the heating earlier to get the desired temperature at a certain moment.
The PID function is for preventing a bigger temperature overshoot or undershoot and so fluctuation of the room temperature (and that could be uncomfortable)
Anyway thats also a choice and the interface looks very nice. It’s one of the plugins where Pimatic gets some color

@lschip Thanks for that input, but this doesn’t answer my question as I’m firstly trying to control my heating before I can use schedules on it.

I just got the Netatmo Smart Thermostat, I managed to control it via app and via web browser using the netatmo website.
So the question is how to control it via pimatic? Has anyone done this before

Hi, did you look at the pimatic-netatmo plugin? Its not directly for thermostats but its developed by @thex and he could possibly help you with this.

In theory the API allows acces to the thermostats but I don’t own any so I didn’t implement anything in that direction

That did the trick. Thank you, I’m now able to fully controll the desired temperature with rules and the heater responds to that correctly.

Netatmo-Plugin didn’t do the trick as the thermostat doesn’t seem to be supported
