Presence detection (again)

I struggle with present detection (the pluging “netcheck” does not work for me).

I don’t want to install anything on the to detect Smartphones.

Pinging not always works and bluetooth is not always on.
So this is what I do now for each know device (until now it works pretty well but maybe it is an overkill of sensing:

Ping the device. If that does not give a device as present then:
Arping a device 5 times (because offen the device does not react a few times

If that does not give a device as present I do a hcitool -name (trying with bluetooth).

I think the arping is working the best for newer Smartphones.

But I also like to detect Smartphones that are not connected to my network (visitors) or where I don’t know the bluetooth mac adres off.

So has anyone a better solution?

This works perfect for me.

I don’t have a Fritzbox so I don’t think I can use it…
And then you still need the mac adres of the device you want to discover. No problem for family members but I also want to discover Smartphones around that are not on my network. Like soms shops do to trace clients.
