Manually monitor energy consumtion

Is it somehow possible to store a variable into database with a specified date? My idea is to monitor my energy consumption manually. I have stored my energy consumption by now within an excel sheet and I want transfer these data to a pimatic variable. In future it would be nice to just read the actual value of the energy meter and store it by a variable input device into database. Afterwards the energy consumption should be calculated by the difference of the last two values and stored dates of the values.

In addition, the following rule writes an entry with average temperature and Raspberry runtime to a text file.

Thank you @Thrusty ! The rules are very helpful, but first of all I need to store the values of the past into the database of pimatic. And I really don’t know how to do that.

Perhaps an example can explain the background in a better way.

Example:
I have written down my gas and energy values at the following dates 21.10.2018, 01.01.2019, 03.03.2019

• 21.10.2018 5000,000 m³
• 01.01.2019 5100,000 m³
• 03.03.2019 5400,000 m³

How can I store these values in the database? Perhaps as a variable which is called “Gas”.

Afterwards I want to calculate the day difference in between the dates and calculate the gas consumption per month within the specific period. So the values for November and December would be something about 50 m³. For January and February it would be in this example about 150 m³ per month.

• November 50 m³
• December 50 m³
• January 150 m³
• February 150 m³

I have a reed sensor at the gas meter, this is read by a Sonoff Basic (with tasmota firmware).
And this rule counts the meter reading:

when sonoff gas is present and $sonoff-gas.presence changes then set $gasvar to ($gasvar + 1)

sonoff gas is the MqttPresenceSensor
$sonoff-gas.presence is the automatically created variable
$gasvar is a self made variable
And now you can continue working with this variable $gasvar as an output for all other calculations.
