Dimmer rule

Hello community,

I tried to optimize my dimmer rules but unfortunately “$bla changes” doesn’t seem to trigger.

I have the following setup:
variable $dimlevel

rules (simplyfied):

when button is pressed then $dimlevel = 50
when button2 is pressed then $dimlevel = 70

These rules never trigger:

when $dimlevel changes then dim light to $dimlevel
when $dimlevel increases or $dimlevel decreases then dim light to $dimlevel
when $dimlevel changes then after 1 second dim light to $dimlevel
when $dimlevel increases or $dimlevel decreases then after 1 second dim light to $dimlevel

Setting the brightness directly works:

when button is pressed then dim light to 50%
when button2 is pressed then dim light to $dimlevel

Because there are multiple possibilities when the dimlevel could change, it would be great to store the value globally in one variable and trigger automatically on changes.

@SaxnPaule I have made a quick test with the following setup and for me everything is working fine even if the raspbee light is switched off the light is dimmed to the value changed by the dimmer device. Hoping this can help you.

Please create a variable. If you switch a device change the value of the variable.
Then create a rule listening on the variable change and dim your dummy dimmer accordingly.

Create a variable called dimlevel-test and try these rules:

when $test-dimmer.dimlevel changes then $dimlevel-test = $test-dimmer.dimlevel

when $dimlevel-test changes then dim raspee_modul to $dimlevel-test

Okay, seems to work for me too…
This is my final solution:

$dimlevel-tv = 0
when state of aqara-switch-3 is "1001" then $dimlevel-tv = $dimlevel-tv + 25
when $dimlevel-tv > 100 then $dimlevel-tv = 25
when $dimlevel-tv changes then after 1 second dim beleuchtung-tv to $dimlevel-tv

It’s needed to wait one second in the last rule because you need to wait for the second rule to apply in case of 125% --> 25%

Okay, so you’re stepping up to 100% with a step size of 25% and if the value is above 100% your starting again at 25%?

Yes exactly. Because there is no intuitive way to decrease the dim level. Maybe one could bind the doubleclick action of the button (1004), but rotating is more intuitive in my opinion.

$dimlevel-tv = 0
$dim-step-size = 25
when [state of aqara-switch-3 is "1001" and $dimlevel-tv + $dim-step-size <= 100] then $dimlevel-tv = $dimlevel-tv + $dim-step-size
when [state of aqara-switch-3 is "1001" and $dimlevel-tv + $dim-step-size > 100] then $dimlevel-tv = $dim-step-size
when $dimlevel-tv changes then dim beleuchtung-tv to $dimlevel-tv

This should eleminate the 1 second delay and provide the possibility to define the dimming steps globally without adjusting different rules.
