Pimaitc HTTP push notifications
Hi,
what you guys thinking about realize push notifications from Pimatic directly via the browser? Benefit would be to be independent from any external service. It would be no disadvantage if pimatic is accessible from the web, it would work always. With no web access it would work always when you are in the network.
Interesting for somebody?

I think an additional feature to push messages to a browser doesn’t necessarily make sense as the browser would already need to have an established session with the server. In such case using a dynamic mechanism like AJAX would already allow for notifications (e.g. the state of a device changing in the browser connected to the Pimatic webserver would be a good example of that).
The alternative would be to have a client app listening for incoming messages. However, I think most mobile OS-es such as IOS and Android require the sender server to register with the OS providers API framework and provide an app through the provider’s store, which will then in turn deliver the push message to the (Pimatic) app on the mobile device. Challenge here would be each Pimatic instance (read home) would require their own API key with e.g. Apple, Samsung, …
Maybe a developer with more experience in mobile app development can share some additional thoughts…I could be completely off here

Hi, this sounds very interesting to me. I’m really interested in some notifications methods like the notify or alert massages of bootstrap or like Notify.js. Is this the idea or did I get it wrong?
An example is to show some massages on top of the pimatic page if log in. Like “There is an update for xyz available” or “The humidity is to high” or “Today is the birthday of xyz”.
@Dan: You know I use the telegram plugin and it works fine. I just thinking to have something directly out of Pimatic. My idea was to use something like push.js. Perhaps my expectations are too simple and on closer inspection it will become clear that it is more effort than expected and therefore not worth it.
@ortin I think it would be possible to integrate a notification center to pimatic.
To a large extent I see this as a UI development task as part of pimatic-mobile-frontend. The extensions required to provide a basic built-in notification push service as part of of the core would be fairly straightforward. Beyond that I think it needs some further thought. Is it anticipated to be able to integrate other push services with the notification center?
Anhow, if no volunteers for the development work on the UI part it is likely not to happen

Don’t now if the question is only directed to me, but from my point of view it is only on central push service.
I would do the dev work, but I don’t believe that this task is suitable as an entry into the cs world.
