Hi
I have seen some posts about using multiple MCP23017 on a pi but I am still confused. I have 4 mypifi Gpio extenders and want to use these with Gpio plugin but I am not sure firstly how to set these up in config and also where I add the address in config. Where or how would you know what the GPIO PIN number that must be used when configuring a device Is? Then also how do I add the pull-up on them if used as input.? Articles all refer to code but this would have to be configured for the Gpio module not so?

maybe @wutu or @mwittig have a clue.
marcus has developed the johnnyfive plugin where it’s possible to use the mcp
also i know that wutu has been playing around with this in the past.there’s a plugin for the pcf expander. maybe a good start?

Hi, I no longer have MPC23017 connected directly to RPi. I got it on ESP8266. But johnny-five plugin will work…

Thanks will try the Johnny-five plugin. I had thought it was a specific board type when reading the forum did not realize it was a plug-in. I think it will work for what I want. Thanks!

Hi I have attempted to use pimatic-Johnny-five plugin, but when I try to create a device I get board not found error. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I have set to expander MCP23017. When I use the command sudo i2cdetect -y 1 I can see Address detected…? Will keep reading to see if I can find something I missed.

Hi
Out of interest what firmware have you loaded on your ESP8266 to be able to load the MCP23017 expander chip? -
