Bluetooth and BLE status

Hi!

So i’m playing a bit with Bluetooth and BLE, now focusing on creating two native plugins. One for an iTag BLE device and one to support for the Xiaomi Mi Flora plant sensor without the need for the Python script.

There is a plugin called pimatic-ble which looks interesting but which does not install on Pimatic 0.9.42. There is however a development branch and a patch, but these are not merged. Is any work being done one this plugin? Otherwise maybe someone else (I?) could merge the development branch and patch, and this version could be included instead of the non maintained branch.

I think proper Bluetooth and BLE support should be available to Pimatic as quite a lot devices are available which could be interesting for home automation

The plugin is no longer maintained and the pull request in question does not seem to work (at least that is was comments are suggesting). @thost96 can you comment on this, pleas? Did you ever get this working with pimatic 0.9?

Ok, so I’m giving it a try.

I took the latest devel branch and merged the provided patch for Pimatic 9

I currently get an error message:

How to fix this “Cannot find module” message?

if you clone a git repo in the plugin folder
you must make a npm install

cd node_modules
git clone https://github.com/josecastroleon/pimatic-ble.git
cd pimatic-ble
npm install

Ok, that wasn’t to difficult. Got it working now, and it’s recognising BLE devices.

I’ll now implement the iTag BLE device and Xiaomi Mi Flora plant sensor. When finished I’ll put the 3 modules on Github and hopefully they can be incorporated in Pimatic.

Ok, nice. Did the applied pull request work as is or did you need to apply further changes.
Just let me know. Please try to be as precise as possible in case you applied the code changes manually as the PR source branch has been removed.

I’ll also write to Jose to ask for access to the repo and package base to accept the PR and get a new package version published.

I did make some changes, will put the plugin on github when I got the Mi Flora or iTag also working, without any of these the plugin is not of much use. You will be able to see the changes in the diff

Hereby an update on my work on BLE

I put three projects on Github with the current status of my work. It’s not working yet, however since Coffeescript is not a language I program in regularly (I’m more a Java and Python guy) I’m very interested in your feedback on the code.

For the BLE code, I updated the existing code to make it work
For the Mi Flora code, values are being read from the device, but only once, somehow it’s not reconnecting after the first connect.
The iTag code is still very basic

Thank you very much for your contribution. I am happy to review your code, but it’ll take time as I am very busy at the moment.

I updated the code, Mi Flora is working now and I added a deviceDebug option in the ble package which shows details of unknown BLE devices when enabled.

I’m still working on the iTag, got the button working but latest version is not yet on github

Yes. I’ve updated this morning.

Maybe you can disable the mi-flora plugin and enable debug and deviceDebug on the ble plugin. Then you should at least be able to see the the different BLE devices you have. That would be a good start
