Itead SonOff devices and Pimatic

Hi All,

Having much fun wit h my pimatic installation and have added more functionality recently and increased the number of devices.

I recently bought an Itead SonOff POW to try as they are much cheaper than the HS1x0 series I have been using.

I have flashed tasmota firmware to the device and can control it over the network via its built in webserver. I have until now had all my devices auto-discover and or used PingPresence.

I’m a little confused about how to integrate into Pimatic as it’s not auto discovered and I am unsure of whether I should be adding it as a device or thru the config.json file.

Any help is much appreciated.

@Nathan-Quick adding a device is kinda the same as adding it through the config.json. Apart from using a GUI that is.

I dont own the device, but you say the switch has a webpage.

We can use cURL for that.

After reading abit, i think your power on url is;

http://yoursonoffipaddress/cm?cmnd=Power On

And power off is:

http://yoursonoffipaddress/cm?cmnd=Power off

Lets add it;

Create a new device, a shellswitch device.
Name and id can be anything.

As on command, do;

sudo curl -s http://yoursonoffipaddress/cm?cmnd=Power%20on

And as off command, do;

sudo curl -s http://yoursonoffipaddress/cm?cmnd=Power%20off

Ofc, replace “yoursonoffipaddress” with the sonoff ip address.

That should be it.

Edit;
Ah, the POW also measures voltages etc so it has a status page. If you could copy that here and if you want to display voltage, i need that page info.

So please navigate to http://sonoffpowipaddress/cm?cmnd=Status%208 and show me what it displays

you can also grep the state of the power switch by

curl --silent "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/cm?cmnd=Power"  | grep 'POWER = ' | cut -d '=' -f2 | cut -c 2- | tr A-Z a-z

with the ip-address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) of your sonoff device.

And if you have activated a Username and a password than you have to use it in the following way by changing the username (admin) and the password (1234) of your sonoff device.

curl --silent "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/cm?user=admin&password=1234&cmnd=Power"  | grep 'POWER = ' | cut -d '=' -f2 | cut -c 2- | tr A-Z a-z

Thank you both. That’s excellent and I’ve now got a toggle button to turn it on. I just need to work out how to change the button to a sliding one that provides status, it is just a touch button at the moment. I’ve also added the power so can see it in real time.

And with the points you gave me I have added a 1 wire temperature sensor to my test pi and used curl to update a variable device. I plan on sticking them around the house and recording temperature of various rooms and maybe outside as well.

The more I dig into it the more I am loving pimatic!

Well, if you could read out the current state, you could set a variable and adjust the slider through a rule.

Just need a shell sensor that cURL’s the state, then set a variable based on that and change the switch based on the variable.

Much better debugging errors. And it’s ISO standard for IoT.
Apart from Pimatic, you can use many other software to control and monitor your devices.
Install mosquitto and Mqtt plugin for Pimatic.

I have now setup MQTT (@wutu your pointer to the guide for setting up MQTT was what I needed as I had struggled till then.)

I now have two SonOff POWs controlling the lights in our conservatory and can monitor all their information. I think I’ll be happier now to use them else where (maybe the 4 way one).

Now to look into NodeMCU…

I’m more or less in the same situation as Nathan and would like to control my first Sonoff from Pimatic using MQTT.

However I continue to struggle how to setup a device in the config file, read the parameters and control it.

more specific:
Like Mathan I flashed my Sonoff with Tasmota using rduino IDE and Arduino Unu board. (>>OFF-TOPIC: Great manual and worked perfect after weeks of effortless trying with the easyESP tool and a uart/ftdi/ft232 adapter. I should have done this from the start<<)

Raspberry is loaded with MQTT and i’m able to send a message from terminal 1 to terminal 2 - so far so good.

What confuses is me is what to configure via web interface on the Sonoff and in relation to that how to devine the divice itself in the Pimatic config file.
How do i get the data from MQTT in Pimatic and vice versa commands from Pimatic via MQTT to the Sonoff

My final goal is to switch on/off a T16 but more important as winter is coming to read the temperature sensor and switch the heating on/off (via a relais obviously that is now manually controlled)
