Present Device for a Amazon FireTV

Hey Guys,

i have a little Problem with a Amazon Fire TV.

Be for i got my Fire TV, i had an Xbox360 for Netflix etc in my sleeping Room, so a i had a Rule “if the xbox360 is Online in the Network and its after sunset then switch on my lights”

Recently, i got a FireTV instead of xbox360 the Problem is the FireTV is everytime on and in the network because the firetv has no Shutdown.

I search for easy and sustainable way to get a Rule similar to my old one. i think one solution is to install via 3rd Party a App like “Tasker” to set a Dummyswitch in Pimatic when display is on / Display is off. But its not really a smart solution because i heard such Apps will not work so stable as there would do on a Android Phone.

Has anyone Experience with such a Problem?

Can you access the terminal, a.k.a ADB?

If so, it shouldnt be a problem to cURL post a variable when it goes into sleepmode…

You can then act on this variable.

Yes its a Android modified by Amazon (without google store etc)

Yeah, thats ADB. However, you only need terminal access, so if you have a playstore or something, try installing a terminal application.

When you have that, try this command from that terminal:

curl http://pimaticusername:pimaticpassword@pimaticip/api/variables

Do you get data?

Firetv has no play store, its completely disconnected from google by default…you can install APKs but the most will not work prober…

@Gleno0h installed via 3rd Party the App “Android Terminal Emulator” then i tryed your command… i get Data… its all my devices etc!

@tehmilcho well thats great, this means curl works and we can also post a variable from command line. Now we have to figure out where the sleep app is and integrate a curl command into it. Ill look into it tomorrow and get back to you.

Okay…but notice that i have no root rights on the firetv … maybe there is a way to root it but i dont want it… because it should run as at designed…

@tehmilcho yeah thats something we have to try. Any script i can find is executing key presses… Would it be a problem for you if you shutdown firetv through pimatic?

Yes… it should work automatic without any user interaction. In think at the moment about to try to make a own apk …but i dont know how hard this is

Okay, i get it to work with the Andriod App “Tasker” and a littlebit “hacking” of the Apk by a Tool because the app wants “googlemaps” and on the FireTV is no Googlemaps…

i will test it a littlebit if its works good enough i will post a Guide how you get the App on the FireTV and how you can use it there because its made for a Touchscreen and not for a Remotecontroll
