A bit off-topic, but I am really impressed by the results provided by the deepL translator. See https://forum.pimatic.org/topic/4186/milight-with-single-color-white-led-stripe for example.

It is a pity that the translator is not integrated with nodeBB to act as kind of babelfish. On the other hand, using the translator side-by-side is not a big hurdle. Thus, a possble way forward might be

• users posting in German must add an English translation, otherwise, the post will be removed by a moderator.
• topic titles shall always be given in English to the benefit of all users searching for related topics.

21 topics and only 6 of them have no history of using English. All other 15 topics are created by users who have posted in English in the past - and as far as I can see the majority did that in a even better English than the garbage I tend to produce on this forum

@koffienl Thanks for your efforts and pointing this out! I already suspected somee kind “laziness” behind writing in German rather than being not capable of writing in English at all. However, for some users it may take a lot to write English texts. That’s where deepL may help.

It should also be said that beyond getting the language right it is a bit of an art to describe a technical problem in a precise and reproducible way. Speaking for myself, writing in English makes me think twice about the the problem while my German posts are rather sloppy at times. This way, the hurdle of writing in a foreign language can also be benefit as helps you to think more carefully about what you want to describe.

Oh I absolutely agree with that! For me it’s also hard sometimes to try to describe my problem.
On the other hand : being forced to translate your post by yourself sometimes work as rubber duck debugging

For me as developer it’s obvious to write all posts in English. And to be honest I don’t like to answer any German posts, at all. And most german questions won’t get proper answers just because not everyone unstands them. And nobody will use a translator to answer any questions.

I think the forum language should be completely in English. The majority of all pimatic users did have english lessons in school. That doesn’t apply to german lessons.
Let’s just put it this way: everyone can get some extra english lessons this way . And if you don’t understand anything you can still use a translator like deepl or send a PM in german.

And as I have already written, I find the forum software awful. I’ve been on the go for about 25 years in many different forums. I run one myself and was in other admin or moderator. But I’ve never seen such a bad surface before.

That’s why I don’t use the forum search or hardly use the forum search, but google search. And Google also finds results written in another language. So if someone is looking for help on a topic, they will find it with Google.

I see an enrichment in the German-speaking area. But if you’re only half-heartedly transposed and boycotted by many, you can forget it.

I think there are no new arguments and this thread should be closed. It’s a decision made by the forum owner/team.
Nobody is forced to use the forum. If you do not want to follow the rules, you may also like to leave it.
At least 90% or more of the users are able to understand english. There is no need to support lazyness of the users and fragment the forum.

Btw.: There are much worse forums software out there.

Ich denke, dass es keine neuen Argumente gibt und dieser Thread geschlossen werden sollte. Es ist eine Entscheidung, die vom Forenbesitzer/Team getroffen wird.
Niemand ist gezwungen, das Forum zu benutzen. Wenn man die Regeln nicht befolgen will, können man das Forum auch verlassen.
Mindestens 90% oder mehr der Benutzer sind in der Lage, Englisch zu verstehen. Es besteht keine Notwendigkeit, die Faulheit der Benutzer zu unterstützen und das Forum zu fragmentieren.

Beyond that I would like to remind you, all users are invited to contribute to the pimatic documentation. As part of this I can also imagine supporting other languages if users from the community volunteer for this responsibility and time consuming task.

I would like to add to no one would find it an issue if you post in dual language, one part in German and one part in bad English just so native German speakers might understand the question better, just as long as the main language would be English so everyone could benefit from the question and the given answer.
