Assistance needed - Pimatic, Kodi and my friend Lirc

Hi everyone!

I am running into a sort of annoying issue every time I use Kodi to watch media and then use the TV remote (using Lirc) to tell my TV to turn up the volume. Here is how my setup works and what I know:

• Raspberry Pi with latest Pimatic and Lirc plugin
• Lirc with an IR-LED and a IR Receiver (on the Pi)
• Television Set, registered with Lirc
• Kodi/XMBC running

To describe what happens: I use Pimatic to control Lirc and send commands to my TV, to turn it on, change channels and control volume. So far, so good.
I can also launch Kodi, and control it from the webinterface (Kodi’s own, btw). Also very lovely and neat.

Now the weird and annoying part happens: When Kodi is running and I trigger any sort IR command, Kodi is responding to it. For example, when I turn up the volume, Kodi interprets it as a: “Oh, go right / go forward”, which obviously can be really annoying, when you skip through a movie by just turning up the volume.

My first guess was, that it might be the CEC adaptor, but the TV is too old and the HDMI cable does not support it.

So it has to be Lirc that it is listening to. Sadly I have not yet really figured our how to turn it off. I deleted some of the mapped remotes in Lircmap.xml (to stop Kodi from mapping the signal) but it still keeps doing it. I also found the built-in functions overview but I am not an expert on Kodi’s architecture.

Any help or tips on how to stop Kodi from listening on the Lirc remote on startup would be appreciated!

@Overflow your question is a bit off i think. Or i misunderstood, which happens often

Ill post something and maybe it can be of use.

Why dont you just use pimatic to sort this?

WHEN … THEN execute “sudo /etc/init.d/lirc stop”

This rule needs the plugin “shell execute”.

In this way you can create a script to see if kodi is running and write a variable to pimatic.

WHEN $kodi = 1 THEN execute “sudo /etc/init.d/lirc stop”

But, in your post, you say you also control kodi through lirc, so stopping it isnt a option.

I think your question should be how to prevent kodi from grabbing the TV infrared signal.

Maybe you could look into remapping the kodi keys?

Somehow vol up for tv is fastforward for kodi, right?

@Gleno0h Thanks for your ideas, you got me right there: The issue is that Kodi is listening on Lirc signals. Which apparently get mapped to internal commands for Kodi, causing my hassle.

I was thinking maybe eliminating the entries in the Lircmap.xml would help but trying that left me without any success.

@Gleno0h Yeah, I have also seen that and been there. Supposedly when you use a script autoexec.py it should be able to execute that. But it didn’t.

Do you maybe know how to execute that function on startup in a working way?

@Overflow i dont have kodi so i cant give you a 100% approach on how to use this but according to some pages;

Check if there is an “autoexec.py” located at

~/.kodi/userdata/

//If not, create it;

sudo nano ~/.kodi/userdata/autoexec.py

If there is one(dont think so) then add the line to that scripts.

Paste this and save;

import xbmx

xbmc.executebuiltin('Lirc.Stop')

Now, it should execute on kodi boot…
