So, finally I managed to get it to work. I discovered a strange problem with this. When I used the Raspberry at home the whole plugin was working fine. When I took it to work and used it in our network the plugin gave me the temperature in Kelvin rather than in °C. So I though this might be a firewall issue and did some research with a collegue of mine who can look at the web-request and answers of the machine. He found out, that the answers he saw were also in Kelvin. But he also found out, that if you leave the Blank (" ") inbetween City and Country than the answers from openweathermap are right.
Example:
{
"id": "weather",
"class": "OpenWeatherDevice",
"name": "Wetter",
"location": "Schermer, Netherlands",
"units": "metric",
"lang": "de",
"timeout": 200000
},
with the above config I got the temperature in Klevin and the language always in english
{
"id": "weather",
"class": "OpenWeatherDevice",
"name": "Wetter",
"location": "Schermer,Netherlands",
"units": "metric",
"lang": "de",
"timeout": 200000
},
with this config the temperature is in °Celsius and the language is in german.
Even it’s fine for me now, it is still somehow strange. At home I’m using a fritzbox 6360cable. Can it be that these routers somehow modify webrequest (taking out blanks for instance)?
@flybysun Interesting findings, but I cannot confirm this!
As said earlier the following entry (with space char) works fine for me. I have even tested this with your location which also works fine for me (tested on Raspi and Windows 7). So there must be something else causing this behavior.
{
"id": "weather1",
"class": "OpenWeatherDevice",
"name": "Wetter in Julich",
"location": "Julich, Germany",
"units": "metric",
"lang": "de",
"timeout": 300000
}

hi, i think there was an issue at the beginning of the openweather-plugin,… there was a notice, that you have to use
"Schermer,%20Netherlands",
I haven’t checked this,… but it could be
greetings

now i removed weather plugin and added openweather plugin.
at the moment 16.6 C in Dresden.
when i look to my local thermometer: 21 C
when i look to my smartphone with iOS weather app: 21 C
the data from openweathermap.org is not really usefull.
@dk00000 That’s true. For my location I also get wrong temperature readings occasionally, for example: temperate 21 degrees C where actual temp outside was 6 degrees C. However, the readings are OK most of the time
Somewhere I read about earlier plans to make a new implementation based on forecast.io, but I am not sure if somebody is working on this.

i remember on github that andig made some first steps for that but didn’t get any farther into the matter then pimatic/pimatic#364. andig is not here at the forum (just for information, only on git)
the issues regarding the differences with temp meassuring i can confirm. actually its 19 °C on my balcony but openweather says 13 °C … brrrrrr …

@leader21 Thanks for the info!
Let’s see if somebody volunteers for a rewrite of the plugin. As a first step, one should investigate if forecast.io is really the better choice and if there alternatives to this.

@mwittig
in my humble opinion i agree with you

well yes, sorry for that, but those issues depend on external factors that are not under “our” control.
if there are information about plugins that are not working anymore we will provide these at the announcements cathegory of the forum as already done: http://forum.pimatic.org/category/1/announcements
guess @sweetpi can change / edit the plugin page at pimatic.org and remove the not working plugins!?

There was indeed a bug in the plugin so that the plugin didn’t handle spaces in the location settings correct. All locations settings with spaces could have been lead to strange results. I’ve fixed the bug in the plugin dependency and released a new version, that should work better.
