Is there any hardware except the MAX! devices which can be used properly? I have some RF contacts here but they just report when opened. The max!

not sure if there are any 433mhz devices that support this.

max and homematic do, but they are on 868 mhz, so you need at least a cul and some kind of plugin (like maxcul or homegear) to get them working without additional hardware.
