nodeBB v1.0 - new forum update, new functions

Hey folks!
You’ve already registered - we’re running on nodeBB v1.0 now.
Since today there are some new features available that i’ll explain little later.
The first visible modification is your avatar. Formerly the forum created a “gravatar” image.
This has now been changed. You see the first letter of your nickname if you did not set an avatar picture yourself.

Well, would be nice if everybody would set his own avatar

Yes, that seems to be a positive side effect

As promised, here i’ll explain the new functions that have been uploaded today.

1. Group chat functionality
   From now on you are able to have group conversations. For that, klick on the chat icon on the upper right, choose a chat or go to the chat overview and search for a user to chat with, then click the gear to see the settings. You are now able to add users to your conversation and also rename the chat. From now on you are having a group chat. The inviter will be the moderator and has the right to remove users from the chat. Invitations can be made by every chat member. If you’re having a group chat, all older conversation won’t be visible to the joiners. If you want to go private with the initial chat user you can go to the chat menu and open a new conversation with him. you won’t have the chatlog in that new conversation then. this stays at the group chat since it has been altered from private to group chat. Hope that’s not too confusing at all. Try it and see for yourself. Can be handy in some situations
   
   Another thing to mention for the chat is the possibility to edit or delete posts
   
   Third thing to mention is the chat overview with a comprehension of your latest chat messages.
   Don’t have a picture but you will see when you get there.

2. New category design
   If you are browsing the categories, you will see a new column to the right. There you will find the forum stats, top 10 tags, last recent posts, past 7 days popular topics and active users to that category.
   Since you are able to set tags to your threads we kindly ask you to use this. If you are tagging your threads there will be a better categorisation. The tagging is no new feature, but the tag overview but has not been attended in the past.
   

3. Custom user profile picture
   You now have the possibility to upload your own user picture that will be shown on your profile page.
   For that go to the user settings (click on your avatar then username to the upper right). Here you are now having the possibility to upload your custom profile picture and move it into the right direction.
   
   If you are ready it will look something like that
   

4. New topic tools
   When reading threads you are now having new topic tools below the threat.
   You are able to mark the thread as unread, watch the threat for any update and reply as new topic. The reply function will create a new thread in the category, so you won’t answer to the initial thread anymore!
   

5. Associate SSO credentials
   When using google or github you are able to connect your forum account to these. You are able to login with git or google then.
   

That should be the main changings. Maybe we add some additional functions within the next days. I will add explanations here then.

Last thing that I must not forget : we have a new button in the header

This button will lead you to the forum guidelines . Please read carefully! Thx!

The new functions are nice.
And the forum works better on mobile phones, but the images don’t scale properly on my Galaxy s5.

Confirmed, the scaling on my note3 doesn’t work either. But has it worked before on v0.8 ? am not sure anymore since I didn’t had an eye on that.

I like the new speed, especially on my phone! Also the mobile view has some nice upgrades.

Problem exists on my S6 with Chrome and Firefox, Cache habe is cleared already.

The empty second post occurs also on my phone.

installed firefox and can confirm. have issued it at nodebb on git.
it’s not only on mobiles! tried it with windows and running the forum in a smaller window.
the same effect …

Edit : fix is on the way

Just another thing that i now saw - the scrollbar for code sections moved to the right border of the browser (at least on firefox and opera)
be careful when copy and paste any code not to forget something if scrolling is neccesary!

Same on my Nexus Tab. Realy bad thing.

By me the second Thread is also empty on mobile devices.

As I said, fix is on the way and needs to be implemented.

nice to hear! there are still some minor bugs but i guess these will be solved soon.

want to announce that we will test a new composer today. we hope that it will become more comfortable since it is wysiwyg. so be aware of some restarts of the forum and a suddenly changed posting creator.

well, testing failed. all remains as is.

Ok, the fix works for the second post bug.
But now I have the problem that I can see the time and date when the threat is posted only on a few posts.
By the mostly posts I can see only the Name from who has post it.

Ah, are you talking about the “unread” overview? There I’m missing the “xyz posted 3 minutes ago” info which was a link to the last post.
