WIFI Switch to integrate in wall

While surfing around just found this esp8266 device: https://github.com/JanGoe/esp8266-wifi-relay

It has 2 channel ready for 230V AC switching and you can use standard Buttons to combine the existing ones in the wall.
Additionally there are inputs for temp or other things predifined.
On top it is open software to modify the way you like.

At Ebay you can get it ready to wire for less than 20 €, I think a good price for that kind of Switch.

For me it seems very interesting especially to use with pimatic.
Anyone interested to intergrate to pimatic as a plugin maybe?

@DDNRN Thanks for sharing. I bought one and I am interested in providing the plugin. As far as I understand this I see the following pro and cons:

Pros:

• Relatively cheap
• Can be combined with a legacy switch box

Cons:

• No certification. Thus it is not legal to install it as part of your electrical system (I think). You may get in to trouble if the device causes damage, e.g. a fire.
• Possibly, the standard wallbox (Unterputzdose) does not provide enough space for the device and a switch box?! We’ll see.
• Power Draw. Ok that should be fairly small, but if it is 1W the average cost per year is about 2,50 Euros.
• I also have some concerns about Wifi coverage if its mounted inside the Wallbox. We’ll see.

Price is OK, but a little high, if cheaper I would definitely buy. Now if it only could have a dimmer instead of realy …

Agree, but it looks like the stuff is homegrown. For a small quantity of PCBs the price is rather high unless you can produce them at home. If you don’t care about the PCB, I think you can roll your own for about half of the price.

Regarding the dimmer please go ahead and give the guy some feedback, e.g. via the github project. He already gathered some ideas for improvement as part of the README.

You are right, but thats why I ordered one also to see what about the hardware design.
I’m interested in combining the things with my existing switches. With all that RF433MHz I can’t do that in the same way.
And of course all of us hobby tinkerers need a bit of thrill Isn’t it . Thats what we do everywhere else …

I have all electric inside stone walls and used everywhere deep wallboxes what should be possible to have enough space for it.

What is the difference with all the cheap RF-Wall-Plugs we use? If this 1W is to much we have to stop using Home-Automation, 10 mobile charges pluged everywhere in the house, TV standby, DECT telephone, Standby at the PC and every other electronics device at home!

Let’s hope it is ok, otherwise it could be used in a box enywhere else in my house.
Will be a suprise if it is useful as I expect, but still more how to play with it.

Interested in a PCB What are shipping costs to NL ? Do you plan on making a version with dimmer?
I assume one can flash/upload it’s own code to the ESP ?

just unpacked my first set, but was a litte bit confused: Why it’s not completely soldered ? Powersupply and varistors are not !

And for a good quality I have following issues:

• All parts should be mounted and function must be tested!
• In any case, please put only one piece of paper with it to explain the main connectors. It was nothing with it.
• Connectors must be indicated on the pcb print. There was place to put your name on it but not for the main things, indication for the main voltages is a must be in my view of things?

With the simple tcp.php like your message from above it is working now.
Didn’t change anything in firmware (still not connect the programmer).

But found an issue maybe? After inserting SSID + Key and sending to the controller, it starts new as you explained, BUT evertime in AP-Init mode again. I tested several times and then after power off/on only, it was automatically connected to my network!

the reason why is it not full soldered is the germany laws but in ebay description is written its a kit

the function of the relays and of the esp where testet, to add directly 5v to the pcb, and the AC-DC power supply test alone,
the paper is the main github image i can print it and add it to the package

Is it possible to get it with a 16A/250VAC relais?

hello, at the moment the relay can swtich 10A/250VAC but for the full use, you must solder any cabels, look at here:https://github.com/JanGoe/esp8266-wifi-relay/blob/master/pics/esp8266-10a.png

So if I understood right out of the box the device is only for max. 2A and with soldering some wires it is able to handle 10A. But you have no version you can deliver for 16A, right?

Do you plan a version with SSR and/or dimmer ?

No, just normal alpha+num!

Did you think about combining your software with @koffienl and his ESP Firmware?

i use the relay borad with openhab and my own lua scripts

but you can use any firmware which you want,

One info more:
The state for the relais 1+2 with command like “php Tcp.php 192.168.0.60 3x4” is opposite because you used NC contact?.
So its not directly working with getStateCommand. I switched in tcp.php to change 0/1 > 1/0.

@JanGoe It is sold out on eBay? I’m interested in one to simply turn on the heating remotely, just via a web interface that triggers this module.
