[BETA] PimaticDroid - Control Pimatic with Android

This app is currently in beta stage, which means that it has tons of bugs!

I am developing an Android app that is meant to make controlling Pimatic as easy as possible.
It will focus mainly on controls, so there won’t (yet) be any support for things like adding rules etc. (first the app would have to be out of beta).

At the moment it has the following features:

- UI that follows Material Design

- Shortcuts to go directly to a Pimatic page

- Graphs with history of device values

- Integrated support for Tasker:

• Detect changes to devices
• Get device attribute from server
• Run device action on server

TODO List:

- Fix loads of bugs

- Add more device cards

- Extend Tasker support (detect variable changes, read/set variables)

- Homescreen widgets (input is welcome)

- Tablet mode (input is welcome)

Requested devices:

• None

Known bugs:

• When a shortcut page is still in history, the main icon will launch to that page (fixed since alpha2)
• Changing screen orientation crashes the app (fixed since alpha2)
• Shortcut page list is empty (fixed since alpha2)
• Devices have different sorting than web interface (fixed since alpha2)
• You’ll have to find the rest!

Further info:

In the current beta the most popular devices are included, however not all devices are yet implemented.
If you have a device that you’d like to be included, just request it and I’ll try to implement it in the next version.
Also any other feature request are welcome, and of course report every bug you run in to.

@FrostedKiwi that looks very promising! ive installed it, first i noticed is that the app is crashing when i try to start them on android 5

On Android 6.0.1 the app is crashing all the time, when it gets started.

Sorry, there was a stupid bug in the app which didn’t occur on my phone (even though it should).

I’ve just uploaded a patched version, it should be available in a few hours. Thanks for the reports

For the first time it looks really got, a few formations and you can go with it. just let you know:

Formation is needet for:

Log reader
Presence Sensors
Openweater/openforecast
Thermostat(Dummy) not showing in gui
Timer
System Sensors

• Log reader - I won’t implement this for now, since this app is based on controlling, not managing Pimatic. The idea behind it was to let my parents use the app without them having to worry about too many functions they wouldn’t use. I might add it later when the app is stable.
• Presence Sensors - These are already implemented? Or do you use a special plugin?
• Other devices - Could you go to {hostname}/api/devices and send me the data on those devices (which template, what actions and what attributes)? Since I don’t have these devices I don’t know how to implement them yet.

I’ll put auto discovery on my TODO list.

Presence are implemented, would be just nice it will be a dot instead of quader with hook.

@p4co86 Okay, thanks for the info, I’ll try to implement them, but I’m not sure if they make the next alpha.
As to presence devices, I am going to stick with these check boxes, as they match the MD guidelines and they have the correct meaning.

I’m using 6.0.1 on my nexus 5

@thost96 That’s weird, in the current version it does indeed crash when changing orientation.
I’m on 6.0.1 on a Nexus 6P and it does crash, and I did not implement a fix to that yet.

Anyway, I fixed the bug and it will be included in the next alpha

Great to see progress on this project! Just installed the app on my Nexus 5 with 6.0.1 (yes, it does crash as well).

I’ve also just noticed that the shortcut menu doesn’t list any of the pages, added to the bug list.

Another question: Should I implement headers for groups? I do not have multiple groups per page in my installation, and I’m not sure if it would benefit the ease of use.
I could also only show headers if there’s multiple groups on a page.

very nice app. I’m happy to see active android developer working on apps for pimatic.

1. Do you plan to release the source code under a open source licence? pimatic and all its plugins are open source and it would be nice if your app would follow this philosophy.
2. Did you consider to join the developing of the existing android app from @dgmltn? We now have 3 apps that are uncompleted and in some kind of alpha/beta state. It would be really nice if we could join forces and develop one complete and stable app.

the idea is to have a native Android app is great. However, I have to agree sweetpi. It would be great if everyone would work on a common solution.

@sweetpi I do not (yet) plan to release the source code, but we’ll see what the future brings. For now I like to keep the development of this app to myself.
I’d be willing to help on the existing app(s), but the projects are not really alive at the moment

@n3ro The idea behind this app is different than the other two. While the other two are focused on managing your entire Pimatic installation, this app is solely based around control, to keep it as simple as possible, so my parents can use it for example.
