Update device variables over rest-api

Hey guys,

i just can’t figure out how to update/patch the value of a device via the rest api.
I have a dummy device which should display the values.

I can GET the value of the device via curl /api/variables/mydummydevice.value1 but when trying to PATCH i get error message only ‘-’ and ‘_’ are allowed.

Can somebody help please?

You cannot modify attributes (which are also shown on the variables) directly. Use the actions supported by the device to change the device starte. See also http://forum.pimatic.org/topic/1035/variables-change-by-curl-http-on-other-pimatic-surface which includes an example for changing the switch state.

thank you for your quick reply to my question.

Unfortunately i can’t figure out actions of the devices. The documentation of the device section is quite rare or i haven’t found the right page. How could i find out the actions of the DummyHeatingThermostat and other devices?

@hofaa As far as I can see, pimatic is lacking this documentation at the moment. The easiest way to find out is to monitor the requests performed by the mobile frontend - which may be challenging for a user without software development skills. For the DummyHeatingThermostat you can execute the following:

# use one of 'auto', 'manu', 'boost'
curl "http://HOST/api/device/DEVICEID/changeModeTo?mode=manu" --user "USER:PASSWORD"      

curl 'http://HOST/api/device/DEVICEID/changeTemperatureTo?temperatureSetpoint=22' --user "USER:PASSWORD"
