Relais question

Hi there,

im trying to get a relais working. I’ve connected VCC on the relais to 5V on the Pi, connected GND on the relais to GND on the Pi and I’ve connected IN1 to GPIO pin 17 (http://imgur.com/a/kbQXi).

Added the Gpio plugin to pimatic, added the following device:

On the other side of the Relais i’ve connected a light switch, just for the test. Will be using it for the heating but haven’t got a thermometer yet.

When I switch the relais on via pimatic interface I hear the relais clicking, also the power indicator on the relais for IN1 is switching on, so I know there isn’t anything wrong with my connections. However, the light is not switching on. Is 5v too low for a light or have I dont something else wrong?

Would love to have some help on this

@Donny If I dont understand you wrong you attached the two wires of the lamp directly to the relais?! If this is the case that is what you done wrong. The relais is only to switch the lamp on. See it like a wallswitch which is triggered by the 5V of the raspberry pi and not your finger
Your lamp needs 230V which comes out of your wall sockets.

The thing on the left is the relais, but dont mind the numbers written onto it. (and if you say you can hear yours switching you done everything right)

Yeah oke, i figured already that it might had something to do with the voltage. Need to read a bit more up on electronics I think :’) Thanks for your answer.

Thymian is right, you are only switching the power line.
if using ac switch the power cable only, if using dc switch the + only
