Pimatic launch hangs at "pimatic-mobile-frontend"

In the last days it happens more and more often that Pimatic does not start anymore. With “pimatic-mobile-frontend” it doesn’t go on - not even after hours.

Normally it continues with:

When I quit and restart Pimatic, it usually works. But it takes about two minutes to load “pimatic-mobile-frontend”. And my Raspberry Pi 3 starts from an SSD!

Because I end Pimatic every night and restart it after a backup, this is annoying of course. Before it worked well for months (even though some plugins took longer to load).

What could be the reason? How can I fix this?

Is it possible that the temperature of Raspberry Pi becomes too high? Besides Pimatic, ioBroker, PiHole and an NTP server are also running on the Pi.

During the backup, Pimatic and ioBroker are closed, the files are backed up, both services are restarted and the saved files are copied to a network folder.

I will now try to backup and restart Pimatic and copy ioBroker and the files a few minutes later. I will also test a case with fan.

It is possible, but I never had problem with this. To avoid such problems I have added heat sinks. The temperature of the SoC in my setup ranges between 50 and 70 degrees C. You can measure it as follows:

vcgencmd measure_temp

or

cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp

where the latter need to be divided by 1000

Add a systemsensor to your frontend. The temperature and some other stuff will be stored in your database. After a crash you can see what was the max. temperature, mem usage etc.

I didn’t measure the temperature all the time, but it must have been over 70 degrees. As described, I did a manual test run once. The temperature dropped to just over 60°C. Let’s see if we can make it with the cronjob at night. I’ve been mounting aluminium heat sinks for a long time. In operation I can currently reach between 52°C and 57°C.

I already have a system sensor in the frontend. However, it doesn’t help if Pimatic is just starting. Nevertheless, thanks for the tip…

I guess it wasn’t the temperature, either. Even if the temperature barely exceeded 50°C, Pimatic got stuck while loading the plugin when ioBroker was started at the same time (e.g. restart).

So I removed the plugin folder and reinstalled it. The last attempts were successful. I hope it stays that way.

But is it normal that “pimatic-mobile-frontend” takes two minutes to charge?

Depends on how many devices, plugins, rules etc. you have. Some plugins get response from apis or gather information so they maybe can lag a bit. You can try to start pimatic manually from the console and see where it hangs. Or check the daemon.log and see where major time differences appear at startup.

On a Pi3?

For comparison: ioBroker reacts after a few seconds (on the same pi)…

@wajowi It largely depends on the number of plugins and devices you have setup. My setup starts in less than 20 seconds (~ 10 plugins, 20 devices).
